We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was a teenager, I’ve had the goal to pursue a career as a singer.  However, for certain practical reasons I decided to study another subject in university and music became more of a hobby. In 2017 I posted a video on Facebook of me singing, and it had several positive reactions from my community, so I thought that was a good idea to keep uploading similar videos on social media. In that process the dream of being a professional singer returned and I started to do music at a more professional level. In 2019, I went to a studio for the first time to record two covers and one year ago, when we were in quarantine, I made the videos for them. In September of last year, I quit my job (Spanish Teacher for foreign language students) and I decided to pursue a career as a full time singer and currently I’m working on developing my musical career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think one of the most important things as a singer is to find your own style, your own sound and do everything from your heart. About the style, in my case, I remember that I was 11 years old when I discovered that I had talent for singing. I used to watch the MTV channel and I enjoyed American pop songs that were played, so I used to sit down in a rocking chair and I started to sing the songs and I felt something special when I did that.

In that moment I didn’t have an idea about vocal technical aspects, I just felt a freedom when I sang and it was a way to express my emotions. As I grew up, I fell in love of the soul and gospel vocal style, so I learnt many things by listening to that kind of music and I formed some vocal education in a self-taught way, listening to that music and also american pop. Most of the time in the technical aspect, I’ve learnt by myself and it has not been easy because many people think that my sound is peculiar and a different singing style. However, throught the years I’ve learned to accept my voice, to know and appreciate my voice and in that way, work to improve and do my best. No matter what you do, it is always important to find your own way, do the best and don’t pay attention to the negativity from the people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely the best place to visit is the historical town of Cartagena, which is known as the old city. It is a walled and historical area that has something magical, lovely, and you can eat in many amazing restaurants like “Candé”, “Crepes And Waffles”, “Plaza Majagua”, “Andrés Carne De Res” and go to some bars and disco like “The Clock Pub”, “Alquímico”, “Eivissa”, “El Mirador”, “Café Del Mar”, etc.

In the old city, it’s possible to walk through the colonial streets where you can see the colorfuls houses and interesting architecture. Take many photos, visit museums, and finally, a phenomenal plan is to go up to the walls and see the beautiful sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my mom, she has always supported me in everything and believed in me. She always has encouraged me to go ahead no matter what and she is pure love. On the other hand, I would like to give thanks to many people including friends and relatives, they have supported me too, the list is long but I’m sure that they know who I’m talking about.
