We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the early success of my brand has always been work ethic. As a kid growing up I always saw my parents work so hard so that they can provide for my sister and I. I personally think that you don’t have to be the smartest in the room to succeed but if you have a consistent work ethic it’ll take you places. I tell this to my team all the time as we continue to expand and reach new levels. Consistency is a key in this business and it’s something I’ve had instilled in me as a kid. That is why I’ve reached the level I am at and only 22 years old.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a sports commentator where I was one of the voices for Florida International University Athletics for 2 years making appearances on Conference USA TV and ESPN+. In 2018 I created my own sports platform on social media called PlugTalkSports. My vision was to create a more intimate news outlet for South Florida sports. In 2019 I quickly turned it into a podcast which featured myself only until mid-2019 where my co-workers from FIU, Steven Lopez, and Isaac Gomez joined PlugTalkSports. We started the podcast out of my garage until local sports platform Lemon City Live contacted us to have our very own live show on Monday nights along with the ability to write articles for local professional teams. Aside from PlugTalkSports, I work in production for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF. I am also a broadcast mentor for Emmy award winning program CCNN Live at my Alma Mater, Christopher Columbus High School. I look towards being an inspiration for the younger generation not only because of my work ethic but succeeding in a public-eye career like broadcast while suffering from anxiety. I was on medication for 4 years after a trip to the hospital back in late 2017. I strive to start my philanthropy career with “The Daniel Torres Foundation” for mental health resources and research. It wasn’t an easy road but it’s something I hope can be proud of and someone they can look up to and say “hey he did it so that means I can too”. I want the world to know personally that I am consistent, a hard worker, and a leader. That goes for my brand PlugTalkSports as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well when you’re in Miami there’s plenty of things to do and go see. I’ll definitely take them to one of my favorite spots which is The Edition Hotel on Miami Beach to go eat and have some drinks. I would definitely take them out to enjoy a day in Key Biscayne to enjoy the beach/sunset. I love fishing so I would also take them out to Everglades National Park to do some backcountry bass fishing. You can’t go to Miami and not have any Cuban food so I’ll take them to one of my favorite spots owned by a fellow friend which is Enriquetas Cuban Sandwich Shop in Midtown. The warmth of the Cuban culture is something to see and check out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a man of Christian faith, none of this is possible without my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My family has played a huge role in my early success as they have always been supportive of me and allow me to follow my dreams. My PlugTalkSports team who support my vision/creativity and help me so much in continuing my vision. Lemon City Live for allowing us to have the platform to show our personalities and sports knowledge every week. I would also like to thank Manuel delValle for showing me so much of the world of broadcasting and giving me a chance to follow my dream in a professional soccer club.
