We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel “Verb” Hidalgo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel “Verb”, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I was so confident in my business plan, that the risk I took when I invested every penny I owned into starting up my business wasn’t even a thought. Calculated risk should always be a factor when starting a new business. I was only 30 years old with no children when I started my business. So taking a risk wasn’t as big of an impact to me as it would be to an older person with a family to support.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Sole Fly apart from other stores is the amount of exclusive brands and products we carry. I’m so proud that two local born and raised in Miami kids made our dreams into reality in our home town. We are so excited own our future collaborations with top world wide known brands we have coming up in the future. One of the biggest challenges was the hard work and hours we had to put in during the first few years of the business. I felt like I lived at the store the first few years. The main lesson I learned was with hard work a extreme dedication, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. It all started with a dollar and a dream. From there I turned a vision into reality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For dinner I would definitely recommend Osaka. That’s my favorite restaurant in the city. For drinks I would have to go with Swan/Bar Bevy in the Design District.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I would like to give a shoutout to my business partner Carlos “Chino” Prieto. Without him I could of never made this dream come true. I also want to give a big shoutout to my family, particularly my parents and cousin Anthony Garcia for giving me the confidence to make it happen.
