We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Padrón and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniela, what makes you happy? Why?
Seeing the reaction of someone who takes the time to listen to my music! Nowadays, in a world that has so much to offer, where the entertainment industry is as big and specific as we could ever imagine, it is an honor to have someone take 3 minutes of their time to watch a video you released, or listen to a new song, even more having them as an audience on a show. That being said, it truly makes me happy to witness someone’s reaction to my music.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music career is somehow divided on three paths: performance, recording and education. Although they are different all of them makes me happy. I have released four albums and each and everyone of them makes me absolutely proud:
– Bach to Venezuela (2016): a fusion of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music and Venezuelan rhythms.
– LATAM (2018): a duo album with my mother, Olga López, where we feature music from academic Latin American composers.
– +58 (2020): a journey through Venezuela’s folk rhythms.
– Ella (2022): with the wonderful Cuban pianist Glenda Del E. An album where we feature music form women Latin American composers, from classical music to Shakira.
These are my musical babies and thanks to them I’ve been able to tour in and out of the country.
I was able to establish my career as a musician thanks to years of practice and hard work. It wasn’t easy but I can say it’s not impossible. Music is a resistance career, is not about speed but about how patient you can be to build up a ground base to grow from. I had the opportunity to start at a very early age and seeing my mom’s path made clear to me on what I had to do. Although nowadays my music career is very different form hers, the basics are the same: practice, practice, practice… and practice a little bit more.
I consider myself an ambassador of Venezuelan and Latin American culture, so I would love to have my music get to as many people as possible so they can experience the joy in the sounds of my roots.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m absolutely in love with Miami Beach, so I would definitely start with a sunny day in the sand, depending on the mood we could go to South Point, Haulover or even the beach right in front of my building. There’s always something cool happening at the North Beach Bandshell, we could also go to a wall cast at the New World Center, the Filmore or the Colony Theater. In terms of culture the City of Miami Beach has a lot to offer and I truly love that! One of my favorite spots to eat is the Argentinian restaurant Manolo, if we’re in the mood for Venezuelan food Charlotte and Moisés Bakery have the best cachitos in the Miami area and when ready for a drink Norman’s Tavern is the place to go.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The internationally renowned pianist, educator and recording artist, Maestra Olga López, AKA my mom! Since I was in her womb I danced to her melodies on the piano, and ever since I can remember I’ve been involved in music thanks to her. She is for sure one of the biggest inspirations to my music career and so is each and everyone of the teachers I had the honor to have since I started my musical path at the age of 3. Virginie Robilliard, for instance, was my violin mentor and for sure I owe my violin technique and my vision of music to her.
