We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Pasantes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniela, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I’m a full time nurse, recently I met a fellow female nurse who started her own shoe line for healthcare workers while still working full time as a nurse. Her ingenuity was what sparked a little voice in my head that asked, “could I do that too?” It speaks to the truth that empowered women can go on to empower other women and it really got my wheels turning. I began thinking outside of the box, brainstorming ways that I could generate long term wealth and stability. For me, it just so happened that I had the right connections to launch a construction company, which happens to be a predominantly male ran industry. While still a young company, GMDP Construction is just one example of what women can achieve when they feel empowered. Now more than ever female empowerment is crucial to continue to fuel sustainable economies and inspire young girls to dream big so they too can have a piece of the pie!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I recently opened a small construction business with my partner Gustavo Morris (P.E./G.C.) called, GMDP Construction. While we are a fairly new company, as professionals, we are both pretty strong communicators. It’s not a secret that in today’s market it is difficult to find contractors with consistent follow through who are also simultaneously reliable and responsive. I think that’s what sets us apart from other companies and why people like working with us. We are always touching base with our clients which provides them with the peace of mind that the work is getting done.

However, with interest rates and high costs of labor and materials as they are now, especially here in South Florida, many companies are pumping the brakes on construction projects. At the same time, homeowners are facing limited choices in a tight market when it comes to financing their home renovations and we understand this. All of these factors present obvious challenges for a contractor. We overcome these challenges by setting realistic expectations with our clients from start to end. We find that the best approach is transparency.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start by taking them to Magic 13 Brewing in Little Haiti for some fresh air, a good beer, and live tunes. After we would head over to Wynwood to check out the art scene. Happy hour at Cafe Prima Pasta is a must and one of my favorite Miami restaurants. A night out in Calle Ocho for dancing with a stop at the famous Ball & Chain. Lagniappe for more live music and the best wine and charcuterie in town. Finally I’d take my portable hammock and some Joe’s Stone Crab Take Away for a picnic in South Point Park while we watch the cruise ships depart and the most beautiful sunset you’ve ever seen.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know this is totally out of left field (no pun intended), but I have been incredibly inspired by the 2023 Women’s World Cup soccer players! Talk about revolutionizing the way the world saw them. They swooped in and demanded their success be not only acknowledged but celebrated. They managed to set all sorts of records despite so many challenges, and that made me particularly proud of being a woman. Not only are we finally seeing little girls watching the big screen and dreaming, but little boys supporting those dreams too! My shoutout is to all the women and girls of the world who lift each other up and encourage the greatness in each other. #girlpower
