We had the good fortune of connecting with Dánielle Bazzoni-Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dánielle, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I started Zone Marketing Ltd. in 2017, I hit the ground running and really made work my absolute priority. I had the freedom and energy to fully dedicate myself to working and building my business reputation in a competitive field. Giving back was also something I valued in my life, so I made my duties within the Rotary Club of Kingston (RCOK) a priority when I joined the club in 2016. Just a quick year later, I got married and soon after had my beautiful daughter, so I really had to learn how to balance my family life, work and of course, my charity obligations. It is a fact that it is impossible to be in all places at the same time, so I think it is important to be as organized as possible when managing multiple roles. I use certain tools and apps that allow me to manage all my roles. I know there will be times where I absolutely am not able to circumvent the possibility of two priorities clashing, but they key is not getting unnerved. To me, balancing life means that I give myself grace, keeping in mind that I am only human, which can be easier said than done for people who are perfectionists, like myself. My unsolicited advice to anyone performing multiples roles like me, is that tomorrow is another day, and throughout it all, remember YOU. Get that “me-time” in, because if you are not okay, there’s no way you can show up for those around you.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is Zone Marketing Limited. We are a cutting edge, state-of-the-art marketing house that provides clients with innovative solutions and strategic positioning both locally and regionally. In business, my aim is to create lasting relationships with clients. I try to offer a one-of-a-kind experience; the cookie cutter type of service is not my style and my clients can attest to that. We provide data-driven marketing and so, we can provide strategies and executions for our clients based on proven research and analysis. In other words, we do not just give our clients a standard marketing plan, we tailor our services to give them the best return on investment. Marketing is dynamic in nature. I think of the trends and the creativity and I get excited about seeing the future growth of Zone Marketing Ltd., as well as, the possibility of making the company top-of-mind in the industry. When you think marketing, think Zone.

I initially had an opportunity to work with a marketing company. That foot in the door led me to look further into the industry to see what else I resonated with. The more I learned, the more my passion grew. This passion fueled my dedication to refine and hone the innate skill and talent that I had all along.

I don’t believe any entrepreneur’s journey is easy and Zone’s journey definitely has been one of many highs and lows. The challenges, however, have provided the refinement needed to propel us to the level that we have achieved today. I expect that the challenges will continue and they will keep shifting us to even greater heights. The mindset I’ve decided to adopt is to just deal with everything, one at a time.

One lesson I’ve learned is that adapting to situations and being flexible is a skill that is very valuable, not only in my field but in business, in general. I also have learned to keep complacency at bay, because there is always something new to cater to or goal to reach. So staying on top of my game is vital to my success.

My personal mantra is “Success is my birthright” – it has nothing to do with feeling entitled. It’s my way of reminding myself that I was put on this earth to be successful in anything I put my mind to. I apply this concept to my business everyday. I approach my work with confidence, knowing that if it’s out there, it’s attainable. I have built a solid team that I have true confidence in. You can always see the passion and effort in our work and we’re very proud of that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
While we service regional and international clients, we are based in the beautiful island of Jamaica. I think it would be so hard to pick a certain spot to eat, drink, visit, etc. Jamaica has a plethora of beautiful rivers, beaches and mountains to visit, you can literally just point on the map and find something enticing to do. For food and drinks, there are really great bars and restaurants scattered across the island, but Kingston, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay have my favorite concentration of fine dining and just places to hang out in general!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As cliche as this answer may be, I have to give credit where it is due. My mother is truly my role model. I love and respect her for teaching and instilling several essential qualities in me, mostly by example. I’ve watched her display humility in situations where she could’ve been deservingly proud. She treats everyone with equal respect and she’s non judgmental. I’ve unconsciously adopted her ability to have conversations with persons from all walks of life; from attending formal dinners with people deemed “high-ranking” to having deep conversations with the less fortunate. It’s her humility coupled with her innate kindness that indirectly led me to serving as a member of the Rotary Club of Kingston. I want to serve with kindness and humility, like my mother. I must also mention her strength; it’s one of the things I admire the most. She rises to tackle adversity with seeming ease, that I, in my younger years never detected when times were hard. She handles the lows with a finesse that feels like the highs never ended. Along with that, I learned the importance of never quitting which has enabled me to withstand my entrepreneurial journey even through the toughest times. I have to also give a special mention to my husband. Not only has he been one of my biggest support systems, but he actually introduced me to the marketing field and really provided the necessary mentorship for my business when I started initially. So it would be right to say, he sparked this passion for creative marketing and I blazed my own trail knowing that he had (and still does) have my back.
