We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Gordon and Danielle Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle Gordon, Danielle Thompson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
YGB Collective developed as a solution to the lack of awareness of black-owned businesses in various industries. We all know, Black businesses are not given the same resources to thrive as their white counterparts. Enter COVID-19 and Black businesses are in an even more precarious position than before. Although the landscape is changing, there is still a lot of work to be done. Co-founders, Danielle G. (designer and dancer) and Danielle T. (beauty influencer), curate a bi-monthly membership box of elevated essentials in the beauty, wellness, and lifestyle space. “Our goal is to amplify Black-owned businesses to reach a wider target audience through our growing community. We’ve always been young, gifted, and Black (YGB), and the social awakening of 2020 presented an opportunity to share our passion and platform with the world.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a dancer, artist, designer, and entrepreneur. Dance is my passion and brings me the most joy. Dance has taken me across the world and introduced me to some of the most important people in my life. Performing for Misty Copeland in 2020 will be the highlight of my professional career and maybe my life. I am also a budding designer. I love all things interior design. Helping someone create a unique space that feels like home is extremely satisfying. As an artist, it’s important to continue growing and learning. I’ve learned the most through my travels and experiences abroad. I learned how to communicate with humans from different walks of life, how to eat, and how to find pleasure in the simple things. Through dance, design, and traveling, I learned how to be an entrepreneur. You make the most of what you have in front of you, lean into your network, and never give up. -Danielle Gordon

I never in a million years would have considered myself a creative (I thought I would be a lawyer!), and yet here I am! I love all of the aspects of content creation, and creating a brand from scratch. To be able to tell your brand’s story through photos and copy has been so exhilarating, and I’ve loved every single piece of it. -Danielle Thompson
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I’d take them on a boat! I think the best way to experience the city is from the water. You get to share quality time with your selected group and experience the stunning views and weather Miami is known for. Whether it’s an early morning cruise or a dinner party, boat days are the best days! For food, I’d take them to Little River or Wynwood. So many cute places are popping up in that area! – Danielle Gordon
I would take my friends definitely to Wynwood. There’s such a cool vibe at Wynwood and so many things to do and see, it’s definitely the spot to be. – Danielle Thompson

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I’d like to thank my family for their unconditional love and support. My mom, my dad, my sister and my brother have always been my biggest source of encouragement to take on any adventure. That being said, my co-founder, Danielle Thompson, is basically family. We’re life-long friends and YGB Collective isn’t our first entrepreneurial venture together. There are several other friends and family members that continue to show their support and love that could be mentioned. They know who they are and we are forever grateful! We wouldn’t be who or where we are without them. -Danielle Gordon
To piggyback off what DG said, we would be nowhere without our family. So I thank my mom, dad, sister, aunt & uncle for their undying support. And I’d also like to thank my friends who have always encouraged and supported me in all of my endeavors. -Danielle Thompson
