Meet Danielle Lissance | Shop owner & stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Lissance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?

“There will always be people that doubt you. Don’t be one of them”

This is what I tell myself when I feel that maybe I have bitten off more than I can chew. There are times when we need to remind ourselves that we are capable of reaching our goals, and to not give up.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have always wanted my own clothing store. As a little girl growing up in Brooklyn I would draw pictures of store fronts in Soho with the name “Store 77” on the awning. Over the years the name and location of my future store changed but the dream didn’t. I went to college and got a Bachelors degree in “small business management” with the intent of running my own small business one day. I continued working in retail for 20 plus years. Having three children, and the skyrocketing rent prices in the city made my dream of opening my own shop feel unattainable at times. We moved to Westchester in 2017 and I commuted to Brooklyn for work for 5 years. During covid I had a moment on the subway to work where I decided to move my dream business to Westchester too! I set my sight on Hastings on Hudson and made it happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If someone was visiting the River Towns of Westchester I would suggest :

When you arrive at the Hastings Train station definitely grab a coffee and pastry at “The Good Witch” it is a beautiful coffee shop situated right next to the train.

Then check out these restaurants during your stay:
Boro 6 (wine bar and restaurant)

St George Bistro (french)
Uncle Leftys (Hastings neighborhood bar/restaurant  )

Harvest (big beautiful water front dining)The Red Hat (stunning views right on the Hudson River, delicious food)

Cookery ( a true culinary experience)

Parlour (best pizza)

Goose Feather ( Chinese fusion)

Horse Feathers ( been there forever Great Pub food. Amazing staff and welcoming vibe)

Sweet Grass (delicious and vegan friendly)

My Tokyo( sushi)

Demeters Tavern ( been there forever perfect for you sports lovers, many tvs playing games all day and great pub food)

We have some amazing stores to shop for home decor and gifts as well:

“Belkind Bigi” in Tarrytown where you can find the most beautifully curated selection of antique mid century furniture and art work. Stacy the owners taste is impeccable and not only does she provide these beautiful pieces she also works with clients to frame and upholster them based on their decor.

We also have “Hom Market” in Hastings as well as “in2green” and “Hudson Line” in Hastings. All offering beautiful gifts and home decor.

You can learn to sew at “Hastings Sew” or to knit at “The Observatory Shop”
Stock up on waste free cleaning supplies, reusable items, and much more at one of my favorites the “Refill Room” in Hastings. We also have an amazing florist in Hastings called “Lemon Terrace” they make beautiful arrangements and even offer workshops on floral arrangements and wreath making.

For childrens gifts and toys my go to is “Chelsea Dry Goods” in Hastings which has been there for over 30 years.

In Dobbs Ferry we have “Hud Co”a state of the art beautiful co working space that houses “Picture Book” a wonderfully curated book store as well as “Bloomy”a delicious cheese shop.

I would say if you are interested in History Tarrytown has some very cool places to visit such as the home of Washington Irving. That brings us to Halloween and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Tarrytown/ Sleepy Hollow really know how to celebrate Halloween! October is a very good month to visit. There is also the “Hudson River Museum” in Yonkers, a great museum and planetarium.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would have to say my husband Dan. He has been pivotal in my professional growth these last few years. Without his emotional support, and help I don’t know if I would have been able to open my store. Not only is he my Accountant, Accounts Payable, and Book keeper he renovated the shop himself. Accountant by Day contractor by night 😉
