We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by POSSIBILITY. The POSSIBILITY to create a more healthy, compassionate and inspiring way to live, to eat and to enrich lives for generations. The possibility inherent in every plant, fruit, vegetable and root to bring the afore mentioned into existence. Working with food and with Nature in the way that we do is to be constantly surrounded by the pure, the miraculous and the therapeutic. It’s an endless source of possible combinations; recipes, products and ways of connecting with our customers to hopefully inspire a fascination or at least a curiosity with a plantbased lifestyle. For me it’s also the exploration of creating products that are true to the Jamaican/Caribbean culture of food in the vegan sugar-free products we create. This is always feeding the curiosity of creating the familiar in a way that is deep-rooted in health and balance. I love it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Nature My Therapy was founded out of my own personal healing journey. My return to health was as a result of adopting an active plant-based lifestyle, learning the art of meditation, self care and radical self love. I wanted to share the benefits of vegan, sugar-free, organic products that are free of all artificial ingredients with the wider population and show how delicious real nutritious products can be. Our goal has been to make it convenient and enjoyable as access to healthful options while reshaping peoples experiences with fruits and vegetables, especially the less popular ones.
Bite sized lessons I’ve learnt along this entrepreneurial journey:
1.Perfection is indeed the enemy of progress, and while it is vital to the health of your business to do your due diligence and plan properly I’ve learnt that you don’t procrastinate on your execution because you are waiting on the most ideal circumstances or any type of perfection as it doesn’t exist, everything is a work in progress and it’s OK to not get it right, it’s OK to fail, learn from the experience, refine and execute again.
2.Growth happens in increments, it’s made up of the habits we foster as individuals, and as leaders. These seemingly small habits will colour the big picture and will shape your future and the future of your company. What you do matters, how you take care of yourself and your people matter, the culture of your company matters and it is the little things that add up over time.
3. Never stop learning. Keep your passions fueled, stay inspired and keep connected to your community. This has been such an important factor especially with the reality of this pandemic.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
On week and so much to see, to do and to eat vegan style!
Kingston food touring from Devon house to Market place with cooking classes at Kingston Food + Drink Kitchen then enjoy Blue Montain hiking with a food stop at Eits Cafe. Next on the itinerary would be downtown Kingston for an art walk and gallery visit then on to Dub Club for music and vibes.
With a week we can grab our bikinis and pick up some THERAPY juices and healthy snacks at The Life Store to head out on a road trip to other parishes; enjoy river rafting, beach waves and waterfall hunting in Portland.
Brunch at Stush In The Bush, go Sunset chasing and cliff jumping at Tensing Pen in Negril.
That’s just for starters!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to unquestionably dedicate this shoutout to our Nature My Therapy customers, they are rockstars! It’s beautiful how a business creates community. This was especially important to the Nature My Therapy team over these last two years when we along with the world faced so much uncertainty and unpredictability. We would not be where we are today without their support, their encouragement, their trust, their constructive criticism and their enthusiasm.
It is a privileged every single day to be able to serve, to meet their needs, and to get our customer community involved in our social and climate impact work. They always help us to remember our WHY. Without them none of this would be possible and we want to BIG THEM UP!
