We had the good fortune of connecting with DARIAN EDWARDS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DARIAN, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by creativity that pushes boundaries and tells a story. Whether it’s a brand campaign, a powerful portrait, or a concept shoot, I’m drawn to work that feels intentional and impactful. I love seeing vision come to life through bold ideas, thoughtful execution, and collaboration. I’m also inspired by the energy of people who are passionate about what they do—it motivates me to keep growing my craft, refining my vision, and creating work that not only looks good, but leaves a lasting impression.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is rooted in storytelling—whether I’m capturing a portrait, a brand campaign, or a conceptual shoot, I aim to create images that feel intentional, powerful, and memorable. What sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity with connection. I’m not just taking photos; I’m crafting an experience that brings out authenticity and energy in the people I work with.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come as a self-taught creative. It definitely wasn’t easy—there were moments of doubt, financial challenges, and times I had to work with very little. But each challenge forced me to adapt, learn new skills, and find creative solutions. I leaned into my community, stayed curious, and never stopped experimenting with my craft.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth comes from being intentional, not just busy. Knowing your vision and staying true to it will always open the right doors.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that Shot By Ddot is more than just photography—it’s about creating work that leaves an impression, celebrates individuality, and tells stories that matter. My journey has been built on passion, resilience, and a belief that with the right mix of vision and heart, you can turn your ideas into something unforgettable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town for a week, we’d kick things off with brunch at Bear & Butcher—good food, good vibes, and the perfect start to the trip. After that, we’d hit some photo-worthy spots like Triangle Park or Jacobson Park to get a few shots in (you know I’m bringing my camera).

Midweek, we’d check out the 21c Museum Hotel for some art and inspiration. For dinner, we’d head over to Manchester for pizza from Goodfellas and top it off with ice cream from Crank & Boom.

By the weekend, we’d keep the energy going—maybe a farmer’s market or just exploring the city during the day, and then wrapping things up with rooftop views and drinks at Infinity Skybar. To me, that’s the perfect mix: great food, great scenery, and memories that last.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, my shoutout has to go to my mama and the amazing women who helped her raise me. They poured so much love, wisdom, and encouragement into me, and I carry those lessons every day. They shaped the way I see the world, the way I work, and the way I show up for people.
