We had the good fortune of connecting with David Stillson, Esq. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, how does your business help the community?
My business as a Certified Circuit Court Mediator and Qualified Arbitrator by the Florida Supreme Court assists the community locally, nationally, and internationally through my donations. I currently donate a total of 10 percent of all revenue received from every single mediation and arbitration that I handle which is divided between each sides’ choice in non-profit organizations/charities. And if the parties don’t have a preference, the funds are donated to one of my 5 favorite non-profit organizations which I donate to on a rotating basis: 1) The Humane Society of Broward County (Provides animal welfare), 2) Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation (Provides animal welfare), 3) The Tunnel to Towers Foundation (Provides mortgage-free homes to fallen first responder and Gold Star families with young children, and builds free custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders), 4) Gilda’s Club of South Florida (Provides free services to cancer patients and their families/friends to assist with the physical, psychological, and emotional challenges of dealing with cancer), or 5) American Red Cross (Provides disaster relief). This philanthropic business model is something that I humbly admire and wish that other organizations would follow suit. Finally, I have toured several of the non-profit organizations which I support and have witnessed first-hand the significant positive impact that my donations have made for both people and animals. I’m looking forward to years and hopefully decades to continue making a significant difference with this philanthropic approach.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have handled approximately 3,500-4,500 mediations and arbitrations throughout the State of Florida in the areas of third-party personal injury liability, workers’ compensation, and first party insurance. In addition to the above-mentioned philanthropic approach regarding my donations, I have established a stellar track record of getting cases settled. I estimate that my settlement rate is somewhere between 95-99 percent. Moreover, my business involves building relationships with Attorneys, Insurance Adjusters, and the Litigants which is critical to having both a successful outcome for mediations and arbitrations, but also establishing and maintaining a successful Mediation and Arbitration practice. This relationship building process began even prior to becoming a full time Mediator and Arbitrator. Prior to mediating and arbitrating cases full time, I was a civil litigating Attorney who handled hundreds of cases. I’ve been a licensed Attorney in the State of Florida for over 20 years now. The cherished experience and relationship building that I engaged with as an Attorney parlayed into my practice as a Mediator and an Arbitrator.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend in town for a week long trip, I of course would determine the potential itinerary based on the specific friend’s interests. Most likely I would recommend taking him or her to the Flagler Museum in West Palm Beach, a stroll down Las Olas Boulevard in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and possibly a Marlins game down in Miami (when they are hopefully playing my favorite team- Go Cubbies!).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this Shoutout to my Mother (Delores), my late Father (Michael), my Brother (John) and his family, and my significant other Carla.
