We had the good fortune of connecting with David W. Contreras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David W., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Understanding that working for myself is far more rewarding than working for someone else. I’d rather work 18 hours a day for myself than work 8 for someone else.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Seattle native and has been blowing glass for over 20 years. I started my glass career in 2001 at the Seattle Glassblowing Studio as a glass instructor and artist. In 2009, after teaching glass for over 8 years, i moved on to focus on my own business, DC Glass, which i launched at the famous Seattle’s Pike Place Market in 2006. I have been fortunate to have been trained and worked along side with some of the best glass artists in the Seattle area and the world. In 2020 I added cremation memorial glass art to my long list of accomplishments and I have been heavily focusing on that.
I believe in hard work and NEVER giving up. Always do your best and you must have the foresight and discipline to be able to see positive things involving yourself in the future and for what you want.
See your goals, visual yourself there and create a road map allowing you one step at a time to achieve your dream.
The test of time sets me apart from most glass artist
I’m excited about the future of glass.
Personally I LOVE making marbles and glass sculptures.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Unfortunately I’ve only been to Miami one time. I look forward to my future relationship with Miami and more doors opening for me in the city allowing me to develop a special bond and relationship unique to the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Huge Shoutout to renowned Glass Artist Aaron Tate, Eric Anderson, Dan Friday & The Seattle Glassblowing Studio aka SGS. SGS is where it all started for me in 2002 and Aaron, Eric and Dan hands down shaped and molded me into the the glass artist I am today.
