We had the good fortune of connecting with Davina Mohabir Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Davina, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I actually came up with the idea for my business during our first quarantine. I kept watching a lot of DIY videos and kept seeing just cute customized pieces all over the internet and I thought if I like these pieces I know a lot of other people do too. So I decided to do the research on creating customized pieces whether it was for cups, shirts, or glass album covers and next thing I knew a lot of people were messaging me to do some things for them and I k

ept growing my business and learning new techniques to add to my shop.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Vina’s Closet, and I create customized pieces for customers. I specialize in Starbucks cups, glass album music covers, shirts, ornaments, and any specialized item that you would want done I can create. I think some challenges that I am still working on is time management, since I also work a full time job, I have to manage my time between that and my small business, so just ensuring that I plan my time accordingly between orders and just life in general.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Miami, I would definitely take them to Wynwood because there’s so many things to do there. I love the restaurants there and the scenery. There’s even a new candle making class that you can create your own customized candle which is very fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to give a shout-out to my husband for always encouraging me to pursue my dreams and always being the person I get to show my new ideas to first. I also want to give a shout-out to my family, my parents, brother, & sister that have given me the motivation to start a small business and also that I get to share my ideas with too. And of course my friends because I get to give them my pieces I create and they always support my small business.
