We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Lamb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deborah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting a business was always a dream of mine, at first I wasn’t sure what kind of business I wanted just that I wanted something of my own. Kandalia CO stemmed from a deep rooted belief in the importance of self-care. From formulating ingredients, to creating a product that helps someone else, my passion for skincare fuels my desire.

In today’s fast paced world, amidst hectic schedules and constant demands, I recognized a growing need for moments of tranquility and mindfulness especially in my own life. Kandalia was born from the desire to offer products that serve as an oasis amid life’s chaos- where one can indulge and rejuvenate in moments of serenity.

Through Kandalia, I aim to create a range of candles and skin care essentials crafted with meticulous attention to quality, sustainability, and the nurturing of both body and mind. Each product embodies a fusion of natural ingredients, sensorial experiences, and thoughtful design, inviting individuals to indulge in self-care that elevate their daily lives. Who doesn’t want soft, touchable, glowing skin.

Moreover, Kandalia is not just a brand; it’s a commitment to ethical practices and sustainability.. The ingredients we choose are carefully sourced, mindful of their impact on the environment. This is why we choose to make candles using 100% SOY wax. Our skin care oils are Organic, Vegan, and animal cruelty free.

What should our readers know about your business?
Kandalia CO is more than just a candle and skincare brand, our journey has been a blend of passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to providing the best predominantly organic skin care possible.

Growing up in the Bahamas I was intrigued with skincare and makeup. I had friends who danced in a Vegas cabaret show and watching them get ready left me in awe, their makeup and skincare routine was flawless. I spent many days at the beach and that’s where I first learned about the benefits of exfoliating. I used (still do sometimes) a paste of sand & salt water to exfoliate my body & face, something about it left my skin glowing & soft, I was addicted.

I took this love and applied it to Kandalia. Our skincare products will leave your skin radiant, glowing, moisturized and feeling great. When customers send me reviews about their glowing skin, this is what I am most proud of.

What sets us apart from others is we take a simple approach to skincare, simple ingredients infused with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory botanicals, and vitamins to promote healthy looking skin. No fuss, no outrageous prices.

Crafted with care and designed for clean burning, out candles offer a healthier and more sustainable choice for your home. Made from natural soybean oil, they burn cleanly, producing no soot and pollutants, ensuring a purer and healthier indoor air quality for you, your children and pets to breathe.

Was it easy? NO WAY, still isn’t. My biggest obstacle is social media and coming up with content to post. Imagine having an awesome product that people will love but unable to speak, this is my love/hate relationship with social media. I am overcoming this obstacle by not being hard on myself and posting more, sometimes we are our worst critics.

Kandalia turned 2yrs a few months ago. In these 2yrs I have learned not to complicate things, staying true to myself despite what others are doing, to be grateful for the things I have and not wallow about the things I don’t have.

The biggest thing I learned is understanding that not everything is meant for today, some things can be done next week, next month, or even next year. To breathe and trust that God knows whats best.

I want the world to know that Kandalia is a brand you can trust and we’re just getting started.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from a Tropical Island I love anything beach. Something about the ambiance of being near the beach that takes you to another place. People seem happier when at the beach. The food is fresher and you can always expect good music. With that being said, I would definitely take them to any of the amazing hotel’s & restaurants on Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale beach.

No trip to South Florida is complete without a visit to Wynwood arts district, with all the unique art galleries, bars and breweries, there’s no denying the artistic vibes.

Brickell City Centre has some nice rooftop bars and trendy cocktail lounges so that is a definite stop.

Las Olas comes alive at night so any friend of mine would love it.

Hollywood Beach Broadwalk is lined with shops, restaurants and live music so we would definitely pull up a chair and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

I would finish the week off with stops at Calle Ocho for a game of Domino’s, a visit to one of my favorite Bahamian restaurants “Conch Heaven” and maybe a Miami Heat or Dolphin game (Phins Up 🙌) .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support, encouragement, and love from my family.

First, I have to dedicate this shout out to my amazing husband of 26 years. His support, his belief in me, and his patience with my many ideas (even the crazy ones), is the driving force behind Kandalia.

Secondly, I have to thank my brother, without him there is no Kandalia. He is the bronze (lol) of the business. His unwavering support of me and whatever needs to be done is unmatched.

My family also deserves a huge shout out. My kids whom I love so much, to all of my family in the Bahamas and the US. My best friend who believes in me, they are always available to support my entrepreneur endeavors and lift me up when needed.
