We had the good fortune of connecting with De’Laija Napier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi De’Laija, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, I learned very quickly that I loved to help people connect. I have always been involved in creative activities from singing and dancing to drawing and creating all kinds of things from scratch. Pursuing a career in marketing allows me to use all of my creativity to help bring clients’ ideas and vision to life while pairing them with detailed strategy. Combining these elements inspires me to come up with all kinds of different ideas for curating brand experiences and helping businesses share their voice with audiences they serve. Pursuing a creative career gives me the power and opportunity to see the world from a bunch of different perspectives and find new ways to help people connect physically and emotionally with the brands they love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think of my professional career journey as a mosaic of experiences. None of them were conventional but with a lot of effort and even more creativity and determination, they all fit together to help me get where I am today. I am so excited and grateful for all of the connections I have made over the last couple of years. The most important things I have learned are to always keep pushing forward, constantly reevaluate your circle, and you’ve got to be your biggest fan!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start the days with Starbucks, of course. I would get my usual order of a strawberry acai refresher and a warmed chocolate croissant. My favorite places to eat right now are Unit B Eatery + Spirits for a classy meal with upscale cocktails or any place that does takeout. If we decide to do something, mediterranean, I would quickly take us to Sirocco. We could go to Zoo Miami to feed the giraffes, or find a hole in the wall place to see some of my favorite local musicians perform. I would definitely recommend visiting anything that involves art or music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my younger sister Delandria! She is always willing to jump in and help me out when I need the extra support or when I need a break and wanna go get french fries haha.
