We had the good fortune of connecting with Deniece A. Beaumont Walters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deniece A., is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favourite ‘quotes’ is actually a Bible verse, Proverbs 3:6 – “In all your ways acknowledge God, and He shall direct your path”. What this means is that if we submit everything we do to the Lord, He will guide us and make our path straight, in other words, direct us along the right path.

My success, particularly in my career and business, is attributed to applying this verse practically to my life. In everything I do I seek Jesus Christ and His guidance first and foremost. His path and direction are definitely better than any path I could go down on my own, better than anything I could do in my own strength. I have achieved all that I have because of Him. All the glory belongs to God.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My main endeavour is my private legal practice in Jamaica. Where I aim to be a voice to the voiceless, an advocate for those who cannot do it for themselves and to be that trusted advisor to guide persons through their important and sometimes life-changing matters. My passion areas include family law and property law.

I am in the process of transitioning into legal consulting in the diaspora, particularly in the United Kingdom. This involves providing and connecting Jamaicans living overseas who desire to conduct business in Jamaica with legal services and professionals. It can be difficult to conduct business from abroad and I intend to bridge the gap and make the link between their place of residence and the destination of their goals and dreams.

I am also a Forensic Consultant and have a private tutoring academy for Law, Science and mentorship. I started out my professional life in Science. Following my Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences and Masters degree in Forensic Medical Sciences, I was a Forensic Analyst with an investigations and law enforcement organisation for 6 years. When I decided to make the move to law, I contemplated ways in which I could continue using my forensic knowledge and that is how my consultancy business was birthed.

Having both science and legal education, and experiencing certain challenges while studying, inspired me to start an academy to help students overcome some of the challenges I had and to provide a place where information and knowledge can be easily accessed and understood. I pay it forward by also conducting lectures for the University of London LLB programme in Evidence and Equity and Trusts.

My overarching aim is combining law and science to advocate for justice and educate and inspire leaders.

I have a few other business ideas which lean on my more creative side. They are currently in the development stage and I would be happy to share more about them after they have been launched.

The road to being an Attorney-at-Law, Forensic Consultant and Educator was not an easy one, it entailed, among other things, years of challenging studies and great financial investment. The key ingredients in overcoming these challenges where, relying on God, organisation and strict time management, discipline, and support and encouragement from family and friends.

On my journey I have learnt that no matter how hard the project, calling or task in front of you seems, or how under qualified you ‘think’ you are, you always have to remind yourself that you would not be where you are if you didn’t have the ability, and that God doesn’t call the qualified, but He qualifies the called.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well in Jamaica, most definitely the beach for relaxation, my favourite is Doctor’s Cave in Montego Bay, Strawberry Hill Hotel in the hills of St Andrew to enjoy a good meal with the most breath-taking view, AC Hotel in Kingston for drinks and Devon House for the best ice cream in the world, including a tour of the beautiful historic grounds, and finally, Hellshire Beach in St Catherine for excellent seafood.

In London, I would definitely take them to all the tourist attractions, including Buckingham Palace and a boat ride on the River Thames. We would also partake in one of my favourite past times, skating at Fix-8 Roller disco and during good spring and summer weather we would have to go on a few strolls through the parks, particularly Hyde Park, and then perhaps pop over to Paris for a quick one day trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well first and foremost Jesus Christ, I could do nothing without Him.

Secondly my family, especially my parents, Linton and Yvonne and my sisters, Nadine and Patrice. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. My ambition, drive and intelligence came from my parents and my greatest support is from my sisters, who also helped to build my confidence.

Last, but most definitely not least, my best friends who were there for me through the most challenging period of my life and held me up when I couldn’t do it myself, Kareen, Jillian and Kim. They have been my number one cheerleaders from the day we met over 20 plus years ago.
