We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, what principle do you value most?
We live in a world where we constantly feel compared, whether by self or society and pressured to show up as someone else. For this very reason, I am consciously guided by authenticity. “Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life”. I truly believe that we can put our best mark on the world if we represent the real and genuine version of ourselves. I take pride in being honest and sincere and look forward to the moments when it is reciprocated. In the most recent months, I have been focusing on doing the things I love, because life is too precious to spend it doing anything else. I want to always ensure that I am being truthful to others but especially to myself.
I am also very big on connection, compassion and kindness. I make daily efforts to ensure that I practice this with my environment, people and animals around me. A resounding question for me at the start of each day is “What is something I can do today that will make the world a little better? Whether it’s a small gesture or a grand contribution, I go and do it.
Recently, I have added adventure to my list of values as I have realized that a good experience ignites joy in my life. There is so much to learn from adventure whether it means trying new things or getting excited about how to maneuver through a challenging situation. For me, this is best experienced through travel where I get to learn a new culture and country.
Last but certainly not least, ensuring that I am able to put my creativity to use definitely guides me when making certain decisions. I actually love putting my hands to work to create things as it allows me the freedom to innovate and encourage bold ideas. This also comes in the form of challenging the way I look at things and embracing new perspectives . I like to focus on creations and often think about what uniqueness I can bring to the table.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business started from an interest of collecting souvenirs. When my international travel journey began in 2018, I became very fascinated with collecting unique pieces from the countries I visited. This intensified during my short occupation as a Flight Attendant, where I was able to travel to several countries in Asia, Europe and Africa and was exposed to different artistic talents shown through cultural pieces. My biggest dream was then to find a way to share what excited me with others.
At Glowbe, we sell hand selected, authentic pieces from around the world as unique gift solutions. Our current network includes Uganda, Turkey, Indonesia, Qatar and India. Our portfolio includes items from home decor to clothing. Most of the pieces are handmade but all are traditional such as stools, paintings, Turkish lamps, jackets, tea cups, candle holders, carpets, ceramic bowls and scarves. Whether through colour, texture or design, our pieces tell a story and are distinctive to the country.
As we expand our global network, our goal is to offer our customers exclusivity and authenticity from the countries we visit. We want to continue to share global experiences through these pieces and help to form connections around the world.
Like with any business, we face challenges. For us, the biggest one at the moment is due to the pandemic which limits the amount of seamless travel that can be done at this time. However, we stay very connected to our suppliers and use the technologies available to continue our commitment to our business and customers. We are very passionate about what we do and put a lot of care and thought into providing an experience for our customers.
Lastly, I try to play my part as a caring globetrotter by setting philanthropic goals focusing on wildlife conservation and overall charity outreach. My current goal is to make bi-annual contributions to the World Wildlife Fund from our sales.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will definitely dedicate the first shout-out to my family, especially my sister who has given me immeasurable support and mentorship from the very start of my entrepreneurial journey right throughout. I have a very small but impactful group of friends who have also given me their encouraging words of wisdom.
Additionally, reading a few self-help books played a part in shaping my journey and therefore a shout out must be given to one of my absolute favourite human beings; Judge Lynn Toler who, let’s just say, keeps it very real with life advice.
