Meet Denys Darzi | Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Master

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denys Darzi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denys, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe that the commitment we have to teach high-quality Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, human development-focused education is a crucial factor for the success of your brand. By strengthening our students emotionally and physically, we are providing a significant benefit to their daily lives and the results are amazing. This holistic approach, aimed at the well-being of the students, can certainly contribute to the growth and recognition of our brand Denys Darzi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, regarding our work, what I believe sets us apart from many Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies is our commitment to teaching quality and the quality of our classes. Our instructors are constantly being updated and refreshed, always studying Jiu-Jitsu and striving for improvement. We aim to maintain a high level of class quality. For example, with young children aged 4 to 6, we have one instructor for every 4 or 5 children. So, if we have 20 children in a room, we make sure to have at least 4 instructors giving attention to these children. This ensures that we maintain the quality of the classes. I think this is a significant differentiating factor. What truly excites me is witnessing the transformation and growth of these children. They come to us weak, with poor motor coordination, lacking any kind of skills, without agility or balance. But we witness their transformation. They develop their fine motor skills, strength, agility, precision, balance, self-confidence, and self-esteem. They form bonds of friendship with other children and socialize. It’s truly amazing for us as instructors. We also have children who arrive aggressive but gradually become calmer, more tranquil, and more humble. That’s the most rewarding aspect of our work. It’s not an easy job; it’s quite tiring and demanding, requiring a lot from us as teachers and instructors. But it’s highly gratifying. What I’ve learned throughout this entire journey is that when you approach this work with a focus on human development, when you do it with love, dedication, and commitment, the results you achieve are truly incredible and immensely gratifying. It goes beyond the financial compensation we receive for our work. The feedback we receive from students and their parents, that return, is priceless. The affection we receive and the joy parents experience when they see their children developing—that’s what matters most to us, both as a teacher and as the academy owner, and to my instructors. It’s truly incredible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I have friends visiting, I would take them to the beaches in Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach would be a great choice. Exploring Mizner Park in Boca and visiting Atlantic Boulevard in Delray Beach, enjoying some fine dining and good wine from the wine houses there, would also be enjoyable. This region is indeed beautiful. If we had extra time, taking a trip to Naples, which is a two-hour drive away, would be worth it. It’s a pleasant city with a stunning sunset on the beach that is worth experiencing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, I am grateful to my professor, Francisco Mansor and his nephew, Álvaro Mansor, who have contributed greatly to my development as an athlete, instructor, and later as a Jiu-Jitsu professor. I am truly thankful to them. I also cannot forget to mention the friends I have made throughout this journey. I started practicing Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 14, and the friends I have made over the years have been a significant factor in our progression on this path. I am very grateful for their support. While I won’t mention specific names because there are many, I don’t want to leave anyone out. Friends are undoubtedly an essential factor in reaching the level of accomplishment I have achieved, such as earning the rank of seventh-degree coral belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
