We had the good fortune of connecting with Deondra Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deondra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been a creator at heart. Growing up, we didn’t have much, but I found joy in making something out of nothing from handmade birthday gifts, Mother’s Day cards, or simple thank-yous to show love. Creating has always been my love language. Whether it’s candles, earrings, hand-sewn bags, or tumblers, I’ve always enjoyed making things that reflect who I am and what I value.

I also have a strong love for science. I earned my B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Genetics, and I’ve always been fascinated by the process of exploring, experimenting, and improving. That same mindset led me to start N.E. Love Naturals. I was constantly searching for the perfect candle—natural, long-lasting, and with a scent that actually filled a room. Most left me disappointed, so I thought: Why not create something better myself?

And so I did. N.E. Love Naturals became a space where science meets creativity and heart. Every product I create is designed to bring comfort, clarity, and care into people’s lives.

My roles as an educator have been a journey, filled with purpose and service—but building this business has been just as personal. It’s my way of combining all the things I love into something I can share with others.

I believe in love through action, and in empowering people even through the hardest times. That’s why my mantra is:
Love Them. Empower Them. Always.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career is a unique blend of science, education, and creativity. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on Cell Biology and Genetics, as well as a Master’s in Education for Science. I’m licensed to teach in seven states: Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Michigan, New Jersey, and California. My experience includes teaching in K-12 settings and serving as a Program Coordinator at the collegiate level, which has given me a broad perspective on education and student needs.

Alongside my passion for education, I’ve always been a creator at heart and someone who loves making meaningful, intentional things. This combination of science, teaching, and creativity sets me apart. I’m not just sharing knowledge or making products, but I’m crafting experiences rooted in authenticity, care, and empowerment.

My journey hasn’t been easy. Balancing roles as an educator and entrepreneur came with challenges like time management, self-doubt, and standing out in competitive spaces. But with my core values of love, empowerment, and resilience, they have helped me push through. I’ve learned that growth often comes from failure or setbacks, and embracing vulnerability and constructive feedback is a strength, not a weakness.

What I want people to know about me and N.E. Love Naturals is that it’s more than a business. It’s a reflection of my heart. A reflection of passion for natural wellness and education, infused with love and intention. My mantra is: Love Them. Empower Them. Always. It guides all that I do, and I hope it inspires others to find strength and beauty in their own journeys. I hope that with every moment and every challenge, you choose to light up your life…because you can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were showing my best friend around for a day, I’d start with some sweet treats from Crumbl Cookies (at any location) or Night Owl Cookies in Wynwood, two of my favorite spots to satisfy a sweet tooth. If we get up early enough, we might also enjoy South Beach to soak up the sun and feel the ocean breeze.
For food, Uchi offers an unforgettable, luxurious dining experience. It is absolutely delicious! If we’re craving comfort food or something more low key, Rinconcito Latino Mixto and Pinolandia are my favorites. They both are great for good serving sizes, good food, and for a good price!
For the evening, depending on the mood, we could head to either Biscayne Bay Brewing Company for affordable drinks and a relaxed vibe or Mama Tried for a lively night out with amazing DJs and a full crowd.
Whether it is rooftop dining under the sunset or enjoying weekend markets, no matter where we go, being with loved ones, especially my fiancé, makes every moment memorable. That is what Miami is all about for me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. My journey wouldn’t be what it is without the love and support of my family, especially my mother and sisters. Growing up, we learned how to take care of ourselves with what we had by using natural products for our skin and hair, and understanding that the goal was always health, not appearance. That mindset laid the foundation for N.E. Love Naturals and continues to inspire everything I create.

I also want to give a special shoutout to my close friends and my fiancé, who constantly challenge me to grow, push past my limits, and trust my vision even when things feel uncertain. Their encouragement reminds me that I’m never doing this alone, and that love, in all its forms, fuels the work I do. I always remember to love those who love you…to Love Them. Empower Them. Always.
