We had the good fortune of connecting with Desi Alvarez Herazo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desi, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is a factor regardless of the industry you are in. Over the past years I’ve learned the importance of taking risks. Something that I have learned is that it is necessary to be comfortable with the uncomfortable get out of your comfort zone this is a must in order to get ahead. When I first started Desired Clothing; I knew it was now or never. I had to go for it. I couldn’t overthink it. I realized that overthinking creates fears and worries. Fear is an unpleasant emotion that prevents you from pushing forward. It is a form of betting against yourself, and that fear plays a big part when you are thinking about starting something for yourself. I’ve had to change my mindset to ask myself the following questions: “why wait” “why not now”. I’ve tried to train my mind not to overthink, If you are thinking about starting a business, DO IT! Take the risk! See what happens learn, and grow.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Growing up I always knew I wanted to do something related to fashion. I’ve always had a passion for fashion which is evident from my main page @styledbydesi; where I work as a content creator. Desired Clothing started in 2016 and just recently relaunched in 2021. Believe me when I say I’ve been through many ups & downs and it was tough working a regular 9-5 job creating content for brands all while working on relaunching my business, It has taken long hours, research, and dedication but I have made it happen. I have a vision and I was going to make it a reality.

Owning a business helps you learn from your mistakes and you use them as opportunities to move your business forward. I’ve learned that when you don’t take risks, you stay in the same place, you are complacent. When you don’t make changes you risk, making the same or similar mistakes. Learning from failures and learning early is one of the best ways to succeed in the long run.

The mission for my brand is to inspire women to express themselves, to claim their confidence, to be the powerful women they dream of being. I want my brand to showcase pieces that you’ll want to grab over & over again because of the fit how it makes you feel. When you look good you feel good. I have so many goals I want to achieve but taking it step by step.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Miami, I already have a great advantage as to where I would be able to take my best friend and the places I would be able to show her. What I love about Miami is how diverse and cultured this city is. There’s always something to do or a new place to discover. So let’s see…..

MONDAY:
We will start the week of with a beach day, get a cabana preferably the W hotel South Beach or 1 Hotel and spend the day relaxing soaking up some sun drinking spicy margaritas.

TUESDAY:
Head out to the Design District and have some coffee at Fendi; check out the restaurant’s and stores around the area and end the day by my pool with some wine.

WEDNESDAY:
We would have a wynwood day and check out all the cool art around the area, take pictures and have dinner at KYU, which is an amazing restaurant.

THURSDAY:
We would have brunch at LIttle hen in midtown. Spend the day shopping at Bal Harbor Shops. Go home glam up for dinner at Swan and end our night at Mentirosa Thursday at LIV night club.

FRIDAY:
We would end up getting a nice massage to get ready to drop her off at Miami International.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my husband, my best friend, my ride or die, Mario Herazo. He encouraged me to start my fashion influencing career and helped me put my foot in the door to start my business. I’d like to thank him for supporting and encouraging me, cheering me on and holding me up when I didn’t feel like I could keep going, and My cousin Paloma, who has always supported me throughout my journey regardless of the craziness that life throws at us.
