We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Drummond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
When it comes to my success, it is most important that my family is proud, more specifically my mother and father. I look to one day pay them back in more than just my love that I show to them daily. I would love to treat them to a life that they have granted me these glorious 33 years. I am privileged to say that I have parents that support me in every aspect of my life. A family that allows me to truly step out and explore, and because of them and there unwavering love and support, I have found myself to be successful in many fields across the board. I have found myself successful in education, real estate and life itself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After completing my schooling at the illustrious Florida A & M, I found myself lost. I now had a degree in Journalism but had zero clue of what to do with it. I didn’t want to be away from my family and like most recent graduates I dealt with the fear of failure in the eyes of my family, friends and peers. At this moment, my mom made the suggestion of teaching as I waited to be led somewhere, little did she know that this moment would lead me down the road of discovering a passion I had no clue was there. I took her suggestion and became not only a teacher but also the head cheerleading coach at my old high school, South Plantation, where I began to learn that many students were lacking a sense of guidance. I knew I was here for a purpose bigger than assigned. I was there to speak life into these kids.
My time at South Plantation was short lived, after two years I found myself moving into a field that many avoid, elementary. This is where I truly began to soar as an educator of life. I enjoyed teaching at the high school level, but I LOVED being in elementary! My students opened my eyes and showed me just how important representation is at this level. At North Lauderdale, I was not only there to teach but to lead and use my skills and talents that I developed at FAMU. With a principal like Mrs.Nichelle Williams, who has a funny way of pushing you to use your gift, she allowed me to produce some of the greatest productions the city of North Lauderdale has seen. It began small, with creating the yearbook. Then it grew into producing a film using our students grades K-5, black entrepreneurs and leaders in the city surrounding the Fort Lauderdale area,to create the film North Lauderdale is King, which of course was inspired by Beyoncé. Now this film warmed my heart then and jerks at heart strings still today. Producing a film that allowed our students to see themselves on the big screen alongside professionals from different walks of life that looked like them was important to me. It gave them a sense of importance and success. A feeling that hard work truly pays off.
After putting together a successful drive-in movie night during Covid , a spark inside me was lit. I’m proud to say it lit a spark in my coworker,Lashawn Hodge as well. We designed and created a way for our students to explore their learning and skills through universal learning with a program called SOUL. This program allowed students to join clubs that are not prevalent in the urban communities . Clubs such as; Robotics, cooking, etiquette and SGA.
Now, I would like to say that this all came with ease, however, what is a testimony without a test. Although I had a degree, I found myself needing to complete tests such as my Professionals,Subject Area, and because I grew up watching the hustle and grit in my mother, my real estate exam. After many attempts, I’m proud to say I was successful at completing them all.
A full-time teacher and part time realtor I found much success. Molding the minds of our youth and selling not dreams, but lifestyles to my clients. My love for real estate began to grow. The kind words I would receive made me want to do more, which meant the need of more time. This was the turning point in my career.
After completing 10 years in the classroom, I chose to take my talents and love of traveling to the friendly skies. I became a flight attendant. A position that allowed me to not only explore the world but also gave me the opportunity to create my own schedule and focus more on real estate. An opportunity to show my parents and favorite cousin my love for them beyond dollars and words but allowing me to share the joy of travel and exploration that we all possess.
So here I am today, a successful real estate agent and flight attendant looking to continue soaring in my purpose. My purpose of leading all children, guiding my clients to the lifestyle they seek to live, and spreading joy to all I encounter in the blue skies.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Now being I am a Florida native, when my friends come to town I want to give a taste of Broward County. Like most friend groups, my girls love a good brunch, and for that I would take them to Beyond Brunch on Las Olas, or Kekoons in Davie, both which provide great food and music. Now, me and my friends love to sing, so for us to put on our best show through karaoke I would take them to Smitty’s, where you can sing on the mic or simply with the crowd while enjoying a nice plate of wings. Lastly, I often say to my friends,” I live where you vacay.” Meaning I have easy access to beaches and in a place where it’s sunny nearly year round. So a day at Ft.Lauderdale beach where we can grab Rockefeller oysters from coconuts or maybe a Pittsburger from Primantis and adult beverages from Senõr Frogs finishing off with our toes in the sand.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this opportunity to my parents, who have not only provided me with all the necessary tools to achieve success, but also showed me and taught me how to build genuine connections with those I meet. We are a family that prides ourselves on more than making money, but providing all with an unforgettable experience when they meet us. Making many feel like more than clients, or associates but extended family.
My friends that motivate me to push through whenever I begin to doubt myself about my choices but also inspire me to continue to grow.
Lastly, my students over these last 10years as an educator. My kids have trusted me me not only as an educator in the Broward County school system, but also allowed and accepted my teachings in the school of life.Education is very important, however, the way you operate and maneuver through society is equally yoked.
