We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Pagán and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from the Beautiful island of Puerto Rico and within the island i’m from the smallest town called Cataño. The culture of the island and the colorful living of the island helped shape my character and values. I mentioned the name of the town where I grew up because is a small town with limited resources and a rough past but that didn’t limit me as a person. I was able to influence my community on a positive manner and I was able to grow as a profesional. There is two things that my upbringing teach me and I still follow: 1. Every action has a reaction, good or bad but it will have a reaction.
2. You control your life and the outcome, and there’s alway to find the correct path.
In summary i wouldn’t be the person that i’m today if I grew up on a different part of PR.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Let me start with the idea behind the brand. I have wear hats all my life and I’m very picky about the quality of the hat, if the hat doesn’t fit well i wont wear it. With that in mind I decided to create a brand to designs hats for the things that you have a passion in life, like your culture, your hobbies and sports, and make does designs in a high quality hat. With that in mind I started the brand and I had to learn how to create, market and run a brand. My background is in hospitality and this was new to me but it made sense to me since the beginning. One of the biggest challenge that I encounter was learning how to promote and market the brand, and I’m still learning :). To overcome that challenge I have follow a number of people on social media that are very good at promoting their product and it has help me move forward. One of the proudest moments was when I received a picture from a friend that recognized my hat on a customer and took a picture, the idea of people wearing something I created makes me feel super cool. I want the world to know that i’m creating hats that they can identify with and i’ll always use high quality hats.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely I need to give a Shoutout to my family as they have supported me and help me grow the OverDhead brand. But I need to recognize one person in particular and that person is Luchis Narvarez. She gave me the push and provided me with the initial tools to start the brand. She’s an instructor for the ProctorGallagher institute and at the beginning of the course she help me start the brand.
