We had the good fortune of connecting with Dijonee Chester and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dijonee, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The values and principles that matter most to me are integrity, respect, & honesty. These three principles are the foundations of my spiritual beliefs and my moral compass. In today’s society it feels as though these values and principles are no longer at the forefront of humanity. However, I still choose to move within my relationships, friendships, business and creative ventures with those three principles at my core. As a believer in spirituality, karma, and that you will always receive in abundance that in which you deposit into the universe, I move throughout this life seeking nothing but positive karma.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Paralegal by trade. However, I have aspirations to be a Creative Director/Creative Coordinator for other brands. I am also interested in Social Media Management, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, and Creative Advancement for Black Businesses and Brands. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in the past year in regards to marketing myself and my personality and flexing my creative muscles. I believe my vibrant and optimistic personality makes me unique. What sets me apart from others, or so I’ve been told, is that I am the exact same person on and off social media. The Deej that you meet or interact with online is the same exact Deej you get in person.

I’ve gotten where I am professionally by simply working since graduating from High School. I took my asperation of graduating law school and jumped right into a work sector that would further advance that goal. Creatively, it took a lot for me to get to where I am today. It was so difficult. I had so many obstacles to overcome, mainly fear. Fear of being judged, fear of being rejected, and fear of failure. I had to gradually overcome each of those fears to get to where I am today. I’ve learned that most times I am my own worst critique and that I have to actively work to silence that fear…that inner saboteur that will come up at each new opportunity telling me that I’m not deserving or that I won’t be able to thrive.

I just want the world to know that XoxoDeej is authentically me. It encompasses all things Dijonee’. I’m a believer in love and light and building ourselves and our communities in order to ascend to our highest selves. My brand is genuinely me and when I work with and collaborate with others, I’m only looking to spread love, encouragement, education, & fun! I want anyone who experiences myself and my brand to walk away from the experience not only fulfilled creatively and business wise, but to walk away feeling that the experience was special and authentic. I’m a firm believer that a key component to happiness in this life is ending it knowing that you’ve impacted people’s spirits and feelings.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d absolutely take my bestie to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum & BMA, Graffiti Alley for an obligatory Baltimore photoshoot, the Gallery About Nothing for a cool Sip & Paint night, Fed Hill/Fells Point for Bar Hopping over the weekend , & top it off by attending a bomb ass performance at The Crown. For a week long trip we’d definitely hit up all the amazing Black Owned food spots (Dovecote, Land of Kush, Teavolve ,Refocused). Probably would spend a day hanging out in Fells Point and then riding around the city. If it’s homecoming season, we’re definitely attending Morgan’s Homecoming events. Overall, it’d just be a pretty cool, laid back weekend. I don’t really make itinerary for things like this lol I’m very spontaneous and just roll off the vibes for the day/night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d Absolutely Dedicate My Shoutout to both My Best Friend Shaylah & My Co-Host Tuan. If not for them, I would definitely not be in the position to even have this interview. Both of them have been amazingly influential in pushing me outside of my comfort zone and really nourishing and molding my abilities as a writer/blogger, creative, and overall personality.
