We had the good fortune of connecting with Dino Marcell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dino Marcell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Coming from the 80s and growing up New York City it was a time when cars were much more than just transportation, they became a status symbol and since then I’ve been obsessed with the look, style and design of cars. Also, how each person would customize them to make them their own. I remember as soon as I was able to acquire a vehicle of my own when I was about 16 automatically my mind was racing thinking how can I make it mine stand out from the sea of other cars on the road. I was fascinated on how adding wheels, tires, suspensions, music system, lights, tinted windows just to name a few, would make the car extremely unique and an extension of myself…
When I broke into the sports business, I would see all the professional baseball, football and basketball players spending an excessive amount of money on making their cars unique so I was all in at that moment. It all started with one car I had bought and customized for myself, a first generation M3. A professional athlete had told me if I would like to do the same type of work on his new car. After I accepted the offer, he dropped on my lap an extremely big check and extremely expensive car to do as you wish and call him when I was done. He following words were to surprise him and that there no rush. It was nerve racking to have such a responsibility and such a trust for the first time. The outcome of that build turned into 2 jobs then 4 then 8 and so on and I’ve never looked back.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Coming from a sports management background I had few clients and friends of them always buying sports and luxury cars. Just by chance they would ask advice on which model, color and options to buy these cars with. This became a thing very quickly as they always would complement the car I would have at the time or always buy them from me before even had chance enjoy them, especially jeeps. So, it was very organic when it just became a business overnight. Started with Jeeps into SUVs would work on into sedans the sports cars, but what I loved most were jeeps.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If it’s a week thing and I had them in town, I would start Monday at a steakhouse. Let’s say Morton’s and after would definitely take them to Gala new nightclub on Miami Beach. Tuesdays I will try to set up some deep-sea fishing.
Wednesday maybe take them out on speedboat to the island of Bahamas and do a little gambling. Thursday return to Miami and try to catch a local sports team and or Friday. Maybe dinner afterwards
Saturdays catch a drive maybe to the keys and some lunch out there go by E11even at night. Sunday looks like KiKi and then LIV on Sunday it is.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say a big thank you to 2 very good friends who always pushed me along and never told me not once to stop and or not see vision. One would be Freddy (let’s not reveal last name, he’ll never let me hear end of it) and the one and only Andruw Jones of the Atlanta Braves major league baseball team. These two humans really keep my ideas going as far back as I can remember…..
