We had the good fortune of connecting with Diocelina Najar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diocelina, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Well let’s see, I don’t. Meaning I feel the word risk can often times scare people into not doing what they are meant to do and sometimes I even change the word. Instead of taking a risk I choose to see it as betting on myself, and have faith. That’s the word I choose to use. Be assertive not only in the things that I’ve learned both career and personal but most important my experience. Taking a leap of faith and betting on myself is how I got here. Decided one day to pack all of my things leave my home start from zero and do just that. Bet on myself!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I get most excited about the process when transforming someone’s skin. It still amazes me how much change can be made to someone’s appearance. I think my approach on skin is what sets me apart. My career started in makeup, I transitioned from runway to photography to film. With all that experience I couldn’t help but notice how much the way the makeup would sit on the face would depend on how one takes care of their skin. I also couldn’t help but notice how some people aged a lot quicker than others. It made me want to dive deeper and see if there was anything that I can do ..fast forward I got my esthetician license and decided that instead of just transforming someone’s face with just makeup or just skin I would combine both take someone’s features and skin and get them as close as I could to those who I would see on the runway. Not just contour with a brush but with microcurrent! (You’ll have to see me so we can get into that 😉) it wasn’t easy getting here not only it does take a lot of dedication, hard work, time away from family and friends but also a lot of not comparing and constantly uplifting yourself. It was challenging for me because I worked with so many stylists with big names I kind of just had to do my thing and be ready when the opportunity presented itself.. and it did! Being an artist for me doesn’t stop with a brush or a mask, it’s bigger than that for me. We motivate people through beauty I want to build community inspire build confidence and do my part in someone’s personal best with my skills.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think I’m still a little too new here to know all the places, but so far me I love that you can take a jet ski to any little island and feel like your on vacation any time of the week. I’m excited to get to know the city a little more!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love this! I’ve actually been very blessed to have a great support system, people who believe in me when I didn’t believe in myself! Starting at home my mother and big sister! If I said hey sister I’m going to make 1 million dollars tomorrow she will say “yea I know” and of course I would be nothing without my rock! Momma! And as far as my career two people come to mind Cory Aaron Scott (Cooperweho) who put his faith in me when it came to his long celebrity clientele and Deisy Suarez (Desuar Spa) who from the very beginning has been selfless with her knowledge in the industry and has never stopped rooting for me to be my absolute best! Thank you thank you!
