We had the good fortune of connecting with Dionte Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dionte, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is determination. Being a solely independent artists means that you have absolutely no one behind you to help you advance. Diligence, intelligence, determination and confidence have helped me to achieve some of the largest goals I’ve ever dreamed like starring on the Yo MTV Raps reboot.
From spending countless hours and years researching and studying the function of the social media algorithm to posing as an artist manager and discussing myself just to be taken more seriously or actually given an opportunity.
This industry is very heartless to indie artists but I am always pushing through going on 12 years now.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a compilation of moods, emotions, instances or experiences that I have already, have witnessed, or would like to experience myself.
My art tells the stories of broken hearts, battered souls, euphoria, determination, strong will, overcome the worst and navigating thru life as the best version of self you can be.
My art is a soundtrack to the life of the wandering adventure.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In a one week trip we would have to do a little road running. I would start the trip off in my hometown of course Sacramento. We begin the day with a late lunch of Tartare and French 75 at my favorite French spot downtown.
We venture off to one of my favorite recording studios for an hour or so of creating. From there we make our way to 3 of the best thrift shops in town before we head off for the bay area.
After 2 hours of music and mayhem we arrive in San Jose for more music and mayhem and the i.F. compound.
A few more hours of creating then we delve into psilocybin for the evening journey. We hop a few bars, end up at a battle rap or 2, catch a concert and make our way back to Sacramento.
The next day we set out for los Angeles and Las Vegas for art galleries, shoe stores and more tartare.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shout-out to my mother and to the book the Divine Comedy. My mother has been the sole inspiration for my drive and resilience. The Divine Comedy is eerily syncopated to turmoils and trials I’ve had to overcome in the music industry so I often use it as a guide to get past obstacles.
