We had the good fortune of connecting with Donna Bilu Martin MD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been very fortunate to learn from many great dermatology mentors during my training and professional career. During my residency, I gained medical knowledge, fine-tuned surgical techniques, and mastered knowledge of cosmetic procedures such as injectables, lasers, and peels. When completed my training in 2008, I worked in various dermatology offices and learned about running a medical office. I realized quickly that what I enjoyed most was being able to build a rapport with my patients by creating a more boutique, personalized experience. I started Premier Dermatology, MD nine years ago with the vision of a practice where patients had little to no wait time, were greeted by a warm, friendly staff, and were each treated by me personally. Because we don’t double book patients, we run on time, and the office is a calm, peaceful environment. This allows me to focus on the needs of each specific patient. By hiring team members who are smart and kind, the atmosphere at Premier Dermatology, MD is one of family, where we enjoy spending time together- which our patients notice and really appreciate.
What should our readers know about your business?
In a world where more medical practices are being sold and run by large, often impersonal corporations, Premier Dermatology, MD is unique because we are a boutique, independent medical practice. Because of this, we practice medicine the way it should be: centered on patient care and the patient experience. We are able to get our patients in quickly – so that we can see your rash when it’s actually there and not in 6 months! And because patients are not double booked, there is little to no wait time in the office. Dr. Bilu Martin sees and treats each patient personally. All cosmetic procedures, including fillers, neurotoxins, PRP, and laser are performed by Dr. Bilu Martin, a board certified dermatologist. Dr. Bilu Martin prides herself on creating a natural look with fillers and Botox. No duck lips at pdmd!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many amazing things to do in Aventura and the surrounding areas. I would start with walking the beautiful Don Soffer trail around Turnberry golf course. Then some shopping at Aventura mall, one of the best in the nation. Lunch at Houston’s for their spinach/artichoke dip and grilled artichokes. A massage at my favorite spa, Acqualina, and walking the beach in Sunny Isles (with sunblock, sun protective clothing, and a hat, of course!) Upscale shopping and dinner at Makoto in Bal Harbor- the crispy rice with spicy tuna is a must! Brickell for sushi at Komodo and late night at Marion. Wynwood for the art galleries and beautiful Wynwood walls. The design district for shopping and a craft cocktail at Swan. Pick up some stone crabs at Joe’s Take Away and sit in South Point Park in South Beach, watching the yachts cruise by. There’s never a dull moment in Miami!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could not do what I do on the daily without my village. Firstly, my parents and sister always encouraged me growing up to follow my dreams. I am the first physician in my immediate family, and their love and support helped me achieve this. My husband, Sam, is super hands on and we have an amazing partnership to balance both of us working and raising our beautiful children. And of course, I rely on the smart women who are the Premier Dermatology, MD team. They help me take amazing care of our patients and I am very grateful for our work family.
