We had the good fortune of connecting with Donna Cravotta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donna, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Prior to starting my business in 2006, I worked as a project manager in global law firms and worked very long hours. This conditioned me to do the same in my own business. This past year, I took inventory of the work I was doing, what I enjoyed and what I didn’t, and redesigned my business. I am currently offering one thing to a defined audience. I am working significantly less, and it’s quite profitable.

What should our readers know about your business?
Over the 16 years that I’ve owned a marketing agency, the cornerstone of our work has been creating strategies and building customized online platforms for clients.

After a health issue, a pandemic, and launching my son off to college, I realized that I wanted a simpler business model and more time and space for myself. I saw a recurring theme. Clients never had the marketing assets they needed to effectively implement the strategies we created for them.

This led me to lean into the heart of my work. To help authors, speakers, and people who make a difference share their stories, and expand their visibility in a strategic, organic, and human way with custom-designed, story-driven marketing assets.

I flipped my own story and now lead with creating marketing assets that pull together all of the parts to tell my client’s stories. These assets include Speaker and Book Reels and the Mix Tape Reel which tells the brand story or any story about the business. They are mini-movies that go deeper than the usual marketing reel. Plus marketing collateral such as bookmarks, postcards, speaker marketing kits, and book marketing kits. The strategy is built-in.

My clients have shared that they have a renewed confidence and that they feel prepared for bigger opportunities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If the weather is nice we would do some biking and kayaking, I live in a lovely suburb of NYC and there are surprising hidden gems that I love to share with people who do not know how beautiful NY can be.

We also have some incredible restaurants, lots of live music, and a few small, but chic museums.

I can fill a week with a few days in NYC and a few days in the unexpected countryside an hour away.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I have learned from and that have supported me. The person who inspired me to leave my ‘safe’ job and has inspired me daily to show up and keep going is my son. He was 4 when I started my business, and as a solo parent, I wanted to be more present in his life. My career was not going to allow that to happen. So I built a website, quit my job and never looked back.
