We had the good fortune of connecting with Donte Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donte, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting to building my own book of business has always been, “Betting on myself!” And when it comes to betting on myself, I don’t think there is a better bet I could ever make.

I know who I am and what I am capable of more than anyone on this planet. And, when I put my mind to anything, it gets done at a high level with great attention to detail. I’m in business for myself, with the end in mind, I’m doing this for my family.

You hear often that people are building for a “Legacy.” Me, I’m building a “Dynasty!” I can’t pass down every awesome attribute I have to my kids, but I can give them tangible resources that help them start levels above where I did. And, the goal is for them learn from me, and do the same for their kids, and their kids kids. The end I have in mind is my Dynasty, and it’s all starting with the decisions I make today.

So to sum all this up in one statement; The process behind starting my own business was to be the catalyst of change for my family on a generational level.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m your favorite commercial insurance advisors, favorite commercial insurance advisor. Although it can be boring…I am not! Working in this space has allowed me to use my greatest assets to connect with people, near and far, to protect their most important assets and valuables. I am with HUB International, the world’s largest and leading middle market insurance brokerage.

Although I think everyone should work with me, it’s understood that I won’t always be the perfect fit. The thing that makes me different from other advisors and consultants is that; I’m one of a kind and when we fit together you’ll know it without a second thought. There will be people similar to me, but you’ll never get an exact copy no matter how hard you search. No one cares about you like I do, no one makes you laugh like I can, and no one is transparent like me.

I’m most proud of who I am and who I am still becoming everyday. We are all putting the book of life together day by day, writing a new page every step of the way. Learning from our past, the mistakes we’ve made, the successes we’ve seen, and continuing to trudge forward is what it’s all about. We all need help, no one gets through life alone. And, when it comes to insurances I would love to be your tour guide. Taking you on the journey, showing you all the wonderful sites (coverages available to you) and getting you back safely to the starting point every year.

Understand , who you see today is not who I was yesterday. And the same will be true tomorrow, and the next day and the next day after that. You may see me a year from now and think that nothing has changed. And, I can assure you, I am better, stronger, more determined, and better equipped to take on the challenges that are ahead. Because of what I’ve gone through. Challenges in life and in the insurance market are difficult, but they won’t knock me or my clients out. Instead they will form a tighter bond for us, and create a more resilience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop is the beach! You can’t come to Miami and not go to the beach. Even if you fancy the pool, there’s nothing better than seeing the water and hearing the waves crash against the shores.

We have to visit Barry’s as well. It’s where me and all the other thirst traps find ourselves just about everyday. Best workout in the world for sure!

Then we also are going to visit Wynwood and go to The Taco Stand! No I am not getting paid to say this, I just know that those are the best taco’s in Florida! I said it, FLORIDA!!!

I’m a house cat, so I don’t get out much these days. However, when I do step out it’s either to eat, workout, or sit on the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off, I have to shout out my main man Jesus who makes all things possible. Thanks J-dawg!!!

In addition, my mother and father are my heroes. They have sacrificed time and time again to afford my siblings and I the opportunities we are able to step into.

Big ups to my siblings for putting up with me as the awkward middle child all our lives. I also have so many friends that have become family that there aren’t enough characters in the world to show them enough gratitude.

I have to give honor to my professional leaders, mentors, and coworkers. You’re stuck with me, and it’s going to be an adventure I promise you that.

And lastly, I want to thank you beautiful and amazing daughter Winnie, little girl you make me a better man every day. Thank you for letting me be your daughter flaws and all. May I always show you better than I can ever tell you.
