We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorothee Kumpe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dorothee, what do you attribute your success to?
Perseverance and collaboration. These two points have been integral in continuing to have Deep Purpose evolve and gain more brand recognition. Never give up if you feel in your heart it is right, thats the key. When people and events align easily with your purpose, you have found your path. The journey is the greatest gift and I’m excited for the upcoming releases.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an artist working predominantly in the medium of copper: copper forming, forging, and plating as wearable art. I also love to work with insects and resin, incorporating these evolutionary beauties into unique wearable taxidermy. I pride myself with ethical sourcing and hand made work. This will always be the heart of Deep Purpose. I’m very happy with the newest evolution of the brand which will be launching end of 2023: Hart’s Purpose. For this, my business partner Emily Hartstone and I are launching a new brand, born our of our collaboration and synergistic mission statements. Hart’s Purpose is a creative endeavor that will incorporate my base designs as convertible jewelry, that can be changed and upgraded a la carte to your specific tastes and personal expression. We plan to go into production with Hart’s Purpose before the year is over and look forward to continuing to design and collaborate with charities and artists to pay it forward and create an inclusive, diverse, and above all, purposeful brand
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends and family visit from Germany, we hit the beautiful South Florida beaches, take the Brightline to Miami and enjoy a Sunday stroll down Lincoln, shopping the locals vendors and stores. First Friday of the month, I take people to the Untapped Pompano street festival, featuring music and vendors. First Sunday of the month we love Coco Market in Delray Beach which boasts free yoga and sound healing as well as community wellness and local food trucks. West Palm Beach is undergoing many changes with their waterfront and I’m hoping we will see a resurgence of markets coming back in season. Here I like to highlight some of my favorite restaurants like the new vegan restaurant Ve on Clematis in WPB and Subculture Coffee next door which is a local hangout and great place to spot local artists creating and commiserating. If we are seeking some Art and Culture, I take them to the Cultural Council of the Palm Beaches in Lake Worth and of course The Peach is an art collective that hosts art and music events, also in the heart of WPB.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to recognize Emily Hartstone, not only for her partnership in Hart’s Purpose, but to acknowledge her resilience, drive, and the love in her heart. It is a privilege to work with her! In the spirit of this, I want to dedicate this to anyone suffering from, or close to someone, that has cancer. Deep Purpose is transforming because we want to pay it forward to people that are affected, like Emily, by cancer and rare diseases. A portion of the proceeds from any of the Hart’s Purpose by Deep Purpose jewelry will always go to leukemia and lymphoma patients. We also look forward to working with many other artists to expand the reach of Hart’s Purpose and to have other charities also benefit accordingly.
