We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Barbara Flores Caballero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Barbara, how do you think about risk?
I think that risk is an opportunity for growth. Although by definition we know that it is a possibility that you will encounter a mishap, suffer damage and have possible consequences. But for me it is where you have two bags, one to win and the other to learn in case you don’t get what you want so much. The role of risks in my life has been an active one in my personal and professional life. However, I have not let my mind or fear paralyze me to achieve what I want so much. On the contrary, I see risks as conscious challenges. Now, before assuming the risks, I evaluate them in the short and long term, what their impact could be and if I am willing to assume it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What differentiates me from others is that I compete with myself and shine with my own light. I am not aware of what the other does to repeat the same or compete with them. Because each one of us is unique, special and has their own space in this world. I got to where I am now with a lot of effort, sacrifice, tears, joy and work. It was not easy to get to where I am today. I had to overcome the challenges with determination, perseverance, faith, consistency, perseverance, trust and love. The lessons I have learned along the way is to never doubt what I want, pursue my dreams and embrace challenges. Because he who does not risk does not win. I want the world to know that I am an International Hispanic Speaker proud of my roots that I want to impact the world by teaching and taking my knowledge as a specialist in leadership and emotional intelligence to the educational and business world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend to visit Upstate NY to have a picnic in front of the lake to see the sunset during the summer. We would eat at Mount Fuji in NY, Yellowtail in NJ, Fornos Restaurant NJ, Toros Restaurant NJ, Boina Brasa NJ. I would also take her for a walk around the city of NY from Broadway, Central Park, Time Square, Museums, Shops, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, City Skyline Cruises, others.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to mention two important persons. First, I have to recognize my mother Carmen M. Caballero, that she has been the person who has been by my side at all times. In good and bad times. Helping me, supporting me in all my craziness and occurrences. She is my #1 cheerleader. Also, to the father of my daughter, my ex-husband Julio Marcano Quiñones who supported me and continues to support me in my professional and personal career.
