Meet Dr. Chester Wilson | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Chester Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Chester, is there something you believe many others might not?
I have always been told to pick one thing and be good at it. No one told me that I could be good at multiple things. I was always asked what your niche is. If I did not have a specific one, it was frowned upon. It was viewed as though I was not focused and was all over the place. While it appeared to be solid advice and had worked for many others before me, I did not subscribe to it.

Because I felt that I had diverse skills, I decided to create a consulting firm and explore them all. To the observer, it felt as though I was all over the place, however, it has proven to be successful. In fact, when one service is not producing as high, another service makes up for it. It allows me to do all the things I love while earning money doing them. And… I am good at them!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

In 2014, I started a training center, CW Consulting Firm, which has evolved over time. My training center offers an array of licensures, certifications, and continuing education. What sets me a part is that the continuum of services offered are wide. It includes but is not limited to offering certifications in the following areas: Florida Supreme Court Family, Circuit, and County Mediation, Private Investigation, Armed and Unarmed Private Security, CPR, First Aid, and AED, Case Management, and Masterclass for CEOs. In addition to offering these training services, my firm also offers the service itself.

I am most proud that I can be able to provide the services my firm offers. While I hire trainers, I want to ensure that my business is not predicated only on others providing my training services. This also affords me the opportunity to provide the framework and style for my trainings.

To get to where I am today, it took a lot of coordination and extra work. While working a full-time job, I worked to build my training center. I completed a lot of training in addition to my terminal degree. I often perceived others as doing fun activities, while I was stuck in a classroom or in school. Once I saw that I was making progress, it was not hard to move forward, sometimes discouraging and exhausting, but not hard.

I overcame my challenges by focusing on where I wanted to be. I knew that I could do it, however, it was a matter obtaining the certifications and licenses I needed to offer the services. Yes, there were setbacks, including one of the licenses expiring before I realized it and having to go through the process again to obtain it. But, I did it! It is that resilience that allowed me to walk in the spaces I am in today.

Some of my life lessons are:

The race is not given to the swift or the strong, but to those that endure.

Be so good at what you do until they can’t ignore you.

The reason I am where I am today is because I never gave up.

I have seen too many victories to let defeat win.

If there is one thing I would want the world to know about me and my brand is that I believe there is room for all of us at the top. That is why I provide these training services.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my city there are many favorite spots which include the World’s Most Famous Beach, Nascar, the top Flight School– Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and my alma mater, a top Historically Black College and University (HBCU), the Great Bethune- Cookman University! People save an entire year just to vacation where I live.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

When I think about contributions to my success, the core is my wife, April. She has provided the unconditional support that has elevated my platform to what it is. Her support held down our children and home while I pursued higher education and entrepreneurship. She continued to push me when I wanted to give up or failed at a task. My family and I are, because of her.

I also have a strong support of friends and supporters. Having great friends and brothers around me has also helped to push me. They have provided opportunities and recommended me for others. They are a phone call away when I need them. I am thankful to those that purchased a service, supported, volunteered, recommended, or shared a social media post.
