Hi Dr. Marva, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

In my journey, the most crucial factor behind my success has been a genuine passion for making a positive difference. I firmly believe that passion is the driving force that fuels determination, resilience, and creativity. When you are genuinely passionate about helping others, it becomes a powerful catalyst for success. This passion motivates me to continuously seek out opportunities to contribute, innovate, and inspire those around me.

Building a strong sense of community and fostering collaboration has also played a significant role. I do not believe that success is an individual achievement; it’s a collective/team effort. By creating a supportive network and encouraging a collaborative environment, we can leverage diverse talents and perspectives to address challenges more effectively. This sense of community not only strengthens the impact of my initiatives but also inspires others to join in the effort, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

Success is not just about personal accomplishments but about the collective achievements of a community working towards a common goal. Passion, coupled with a collaborative spirit, has been the cornerstone of my success in making a meaningful impact and instilling hope in the lives of others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Throughout my 20+ years in education, I’ve worn several hats that define my diverse and fulfilling career. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor, I’ve dedicated my expertise to shaping minds. Simultaneously, I’ve ventured into entrepreneurship as a Credit Advocate and Mortgage Loan Officer, assisting families/individuals in achieving the dream of homeownership.

My passion extends beyond academia and business. As an inspirational Mentor and Speaker, I am committed to motivating others to discover and embrace their God-given purpose. What sets me apart is a genuine care for people’s success and well-being. I find immense pride and excitement in helping my community thrive, making a lasting impact, and being a source of hope for those facing challenges.

My journey to this point has been paved with hard work, determination, resilience, consistency, and an unyielding motivation to overcome obstacles. It’s not been an easy road; every setback served as a valuable lesson, propelling me to the next level. Despite challenges, doubt, and uncertainty, my unwavering faith has been my guiding light, sustaining me through the toughest situations.

Key lessons learned include the importance of trusting the journey and, more importantly, trusting in God. My trust in God has allowed me to navigate challenges with the understanding that every experience, whether positive or challenging, contributes to personal and professional growth.

What sets me apart is not just professional success but the personal touch and compassion that define my interactions. I am excited about creating ripples of positive change in my community, motivating others to overcome challenges, and being a beacon of hope in seemingly dark moments. My story is a testament to the belief that regardless of the challenges we face, faith, consistency, and a genuine passion for uplifting others can lead to profound and meaningful success. I strongly believe that with faith and perseverance, all things work together for the good.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I will answer it from the perspective of a visiting friend who has similar passions and interests as me. It would be a Tulsa-centric itinerary that would ensure a week filled with community involvement, exploration, and cultural experiences, all reflecting the vibrant and inspiring aspects of the city.

Day 1: Dinner at a Sisserou’s Caribbean restaurant owned by local entrepreneurs from Dominica.

Day 2: Explore the Greenwood Cultural Center to learn about the history of Black Wall Street & visit local black-owned businesses in the historic Greenwood District.

Day 3: Breakfast at Silver Skillet or First Watch and then visit the campus of Oral Roberts University.

Day 4: Lunch at Fixins Soul Kitchen for the Black Southern soul food experience.

Day 5: Attend a performance at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, or if it’s around the Christmas holiday, go visit the light display at Rhema.

Day 6: Visit the Gathering Place – a river park community where diverse communities and families come together to learn, explore, and have fun.

Day 7: Attend a local church service.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

There are many people who make up my success story and play a huge role in my journey.

A shout-out to my beloved daughters, Sierra and Lauren. This is a heartfelt tribute to two-extraordinary souls who light up my world! Their presence in my life has brought immeasurable joy, and their uniqueness fills every moment with love and laughter. As their mother, my greatest aspiration is to provide them with a foundation of strength, resilience, and unwavering support. Sierra’s creativity and gentle spirit inspires me to strive for greatness every day. Thank you for giving birth to two of the most incredible grandchildren in the world! Tre and Jasmine mean so much to me. Lauren’s determination and compassion are a beacon of light in my life and lights my soul with love. Together, they both make journey meaningful, and I am proud to be their mother. They are my legacy, my joy, and my great accomplishment.
