We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sam Parkhurst, PT, DPT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Sam, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I attribute a large part of my company’s success to me staying true to my ideals of focusing on education and meeting my patients where they are on their healing journey rather than the financial rewards. The draw into the healthcare field for me was to help people, not cash in on their dysfunctions. While listening with empathy to their past hurdles and future goals, I create a treatment plan with my patients that feels good to them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I opened The Educated Pelvis, LLC in 2022. As a Pelvic Health Physical Therapist specializing in adults with a vulva and pediatrics, I assist in strengthening during and healing post pregnancy and offer treatments for all pelvic health dysfunctions for adults and kids. My clinic is located in Westerville, OH, and I also offer home visits and telehealth check-ins. I was lucky to be able to birth my kids in Copenhagen, Denmark and experience the wonders of universal healthcare. Within weeks, I had multiple healthcare providers supporting me in my home, where I cared for my babies. I want to offer the same for my patients. I want to meet my patients where they are – to support and empower their healing through treatment and education. After experiencing many pelvic dysfunctions myself, I decided to specialize in pelvic health. We need more providers who are comfortable talking about and treating the pelvic floor to fill in the current gaps in our healthcare system. I support my patients to be active participants in their healing and aim to prevent future dysfunction.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Columbus, OH is a hidden gem. We did not grow up here, but my husband and I are enjoying raising our kiddos here. Some of my favorite places to eat are Northstar Cafe, The Guild House and Columbus’ North Market. Columbus is full of so many amazing parks. We love to stroll in Goodale Park or any of the Columbus Metro Parks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The mentors here in Columbus that have encouraged me to follow my gut and instincts along the way are Sarah Highland of Pelvic Floor & More, Dr. Nicole Short of Rise Chiropractic & Nutrition and Erin Lombardo of 4th Trimester Care. These three incredible women were instrumental in helping me get my business up and running.
