We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sarah Doyle, PT, DPT, CFMP, DACBN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Sarah, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
How did I come up with the idea for HealWell Regenerative Institute? Honestly, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time with the right people. I was working with a medical device manufacturer, INDIBA, getting trained on their CT9 Activ device at the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort. I heard the hotel was looking for a chiropractor or physical therapist to rent space by their gym. I met with the vice president the following day. It was a no-brainer! The Carillon property used to be a Canyon Ranch, 75,000 square foot spa with 125 feet of ocean frontage, 500+ condominiums, and 75 hotel rooms. Talk about the opportunity of a lifetime!
The INDIBA radio frequency device actually regenerates tissue at the cellular level so it was a great tool to have in an orthopedic rehab clinic. I was also representing MultiRadiance Laser at the time and their ActivPro handheld laser works synergistically with the radiofrequency to decrease pain and inflammation and increase nitric oxide and ATP. Here is my base protocol for accelerated recovery. Patients are recovering from their injuries in just 1-2 weeks with 1-6 visits, instead of 1-2 months like traditional physical therapy and chiropractic care which requires 12-25 visits.
Since I have a background in functional medicine, we wanted to incorporate some functional testing. Since men with low Testosterone and women with low estrogen can experience increased pain levels that won’t respond to therapy, we offer an at-home urinalysis of stress and sex hormones by Physician’s Lab. I love this test because it is very informative and half the price of the DUTCH test; I would rather my patients spend money on supplements than overpriced tests!
The residents of the Carillon often take 3-4 fitness classes per day and can be at risk of overtraining, so we also offer a Metabolic Performance Profile test by Physicians Lab. It gives information on 60+ biomarkers with supplement recommendations.
Biohacking is super trendy and there are so many influencers peddling half-truths. If you want REAL biohacking, take our DNA test that will analyze 8 different systems and tell you which diseases you are at risk for and which supplements will help you bypass your genetic variants so that you can feel limitless. Don’t worry, everything is HIPAA secure and you don’t have to worry about your information being hacked.
We start every new patient with a body composition scan from VisBody Scanner. It’s the first in the world to combine 2 different technologies so our patients get almost as much information as a DEXA scanner – which is the gold standard because it also shows bone density but it exposes the patient to radiation.
Soon we are also offering joint injections using natural stem cells, natural peptide therapy, and launching a hair regrowth program.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
HealWell Regenerative Institute is changing the way rehab and recovery are practiced by using top-of-the-line technology to help tissues recover at the cellular level and combine with the experience of a board-certified clinician. I thought my patients would still need 6-9 sessions, but after being open 90 days, even my post-surgical patients haven’t needed more than 6 sessions.
When most people hear “physical therapy,” they think of sitting in a clinic and paying to ride a stationary bicycle and perform theraband exercises with only 10-15 minutes of hands-on attention. At HealWell Miami Beach, your first visit is 90 minutes, and every visit after is 30 minutes of hands-on therapy.
The biggest challenge is shifting peoples’ expectations from the traditional healthcare model – where the patient uses health insurance, pays a co-pay, receives basic care, and gets discharged feeling better, but not 100% – to our accelerated recovery cash-based model where people get concierge service and feel healed in 1-6 sessions. I make myself available by text message to all my patients 24/7.
Our healthcare system is broken. Luckily in Miami, there are a number of doctors who want to change the way healthcare is delivered. We have a big task on our hands but I think we can change the landscape if we stick together and get better patient results… and have good marketing ha ha ha.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love being outdoors and I rarely leave the island of Miami Beach. If I do cross the water I would take them to see some art in Wynwood and the Design District and probably eat at Swan… love the short ribs.
Back to the beach. defintely do a Spa Day at the Carillon and include some touchless technology like the halotherapy sauna, cryo chamber, VEMI bed, Prism Light Pod or INDIBA anti-cellulite treatment. Head over to Smith and Wollensky for a sunset cocktail and then grab dinner south of 5th at Inti-mo, Abbale, Call Me Gaby or Papi Steak. Then grab a nightcap and listen to live jazz at the Besty Ross hotel on Ocean Drive. The Palace has live drag shows if you are so inclined.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout out to my business partner, Dr. Clifford Morris, PhD. He is a genius when it comes to regenerative medicine and really saavy in business. Much of our successful strategy comes from him. He is a PhD in Biochemistry, has built labs, published papers, advised multiple businesses, and he is super humble.
