We had the good fortune of connecting with Draye Densmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Draye, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I thoroughly believe risks have to be taken in order to achieve real success. Playing it safe can only get you so far. If you believe in yourself and what you’re doing then you should be able to take calculated risks in order to achieve your goal. Taking risks has ultimately shaped my whole career for the better. It was very risky to go into real estate right out of college and move to an area where I didn’t know anyone. Trading stocks/options is the definition of taking risks, especially when doing so on a daily basis. Starting a business is always a large risk. Though doing all of these things has taught me so much and given me experience I couldn’t have gotten working a 9-5 job. What i’ve learned from taking these risks will has helped me grow and will benefit me for the rest of my life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I moved to Houston, Tx in September 2017 right out of college and jumped into real estate. This was right after one of the most deadliest hurricanes of al time had struck the city Hurricane Harvey. Not to mention i’m not from Houston so I didn’t know a soul there. I started The Densmore Group in 2018 even though this was a challenging situation to be in as I was in a brand new place, trying to sell real estate to people much older then me who didn’t know me from Adam, the city of Houston was dealing with the aftermath of an incredibly powerful hurricane so everyone was scared to buy a house in the chances it might flood again and this was my first real job out of college so the learning curve was substantial. Nevertheless I worked hard and diligently putting in 70 hour weeks doing anything and everything I could to get a real estate client. After a few months my hard work paid off and I sold 3 houses in 1 month. Though that first 3 months wasn’t easy and it really tested my drive and perseverance. It took me a full year to get to where I was selling houses consistently which was one of the most challenging times of my life as I didn’t know where my next paycheck was going to come from. Though through consistency, hard work, not caring what others thought and going all in I was able to come out on the other side.
I’m really proud that i’ve structured my business to be a relationship based business and i’m able to assist people that I know and truly care about. This helps me stay motivated as i’m continually building new relationships and making new friends as my business grows as well.
I’m extremely proud of my other business Emendi Options Academy where we teach people how to trade options from the ground up. The journey of learning to become a successful trader is similar to that of real as it has it’s many ups and downs. I’ve always been passionate about the stock market so of course I was naturally drawn to trading. Though it’s not something for the faint of heart as you have to be willing to take a risk everytime you put on a trade. Teaching others how to trade is extremely gratifying as you’re teaching others how to develop another stream of income for themselves that they have complete control over. We started this business so others could be more self reliant and have more independence as well as more control over their overall finances and life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were coming to Austin for the week it wouldn’t be hard to fill our schedule as there’s always something going on in the Texas Capital. Monday and Tuesday we’d go checkout the Texas State Capitol and the LBJ Presidential Library, 2 destinations with rich history and so many great things to see/learn. On Wednesday and Thursday we’d checkout some more outside activities as we’d go to Lady Bird Lake and Barton Springs Pool. Both are nice places to relax while also being in the water while having the opportunity to meet Austin Locals. We’d also have to make time to venture over to Congress Avenue for the bat watching where a large number of bats fly out from under the bridge at sundown, it’s quite the sight to see. Lastly for the weekend we’d go to the domain area where there are tons of restaurants, stores and a wide variety of nightlife venues.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
