Meet Dune Dube | Nursing student and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dune Dube and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dune, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I would say being consistent, believing in myself, and not letting fear stop me from going after what I want has helped me succeed. It’s all about controlling your emotions and being optimistic when everything is falling apart. Lastly, trusting the process because it’s only there to help you grow and become a better version of yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self-taught artist and I’ve been painting for 3 years now. Painting wasn’t always something I enjoyed doing because I was bad at it. As time progressed, with practice and the encouragement I got from my friends, I was able to improve my art skills and discover my painting style. I am most proud of my accomplishments and how much my painting skills have improved. I think the most challenging part was finding my own style and balancing my personal life with school. I was able to overcome these challenges by setting up a schedule and making sure I have some time left to paint. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get where I am today, which taught me that nothing in life is easy and that it requires patience. I’m known for my artistic vision and unique painting style of mixing warm and cool colors together, along with my textured backgrounds. What sets me apart from others is my ability to mix colors that are often seen as unpleasing to the eye, but I make it look beautifully intertwined in the form of a woman. My artwork is intended to target people who need that push or boost of confidence should they ever feel they aren’t good enough. When people look at my artwork, I hope people obtain a new sense of confidence and strength!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit I would accompany her around South Florida to show her my favorite places. We would go to the beach in Miami at Bayfront park to relax. Then, the next day ,we would journey up the county and visit an Art Gallery in Delray Beach called “The Blue Art Gallery” Where we would critique the portraits and speak about the context of the painting and our emotions towards it. For the most part we would stay home, watch movies all day and spend quality time together.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my brother, Dave, who supported me throughout my journey. I appreciate him for investing in my business and for believing in me. I also want to thank my best friends Amigaelle and Kaelicia for pushing me to be better and supporting my vision.
