We had the good fortune of connecting with Edward Capriles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edward, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I would say that instead to say “risk” talking about my persona or profesional life I prefer call it “challenge” I think is more positive word.
When you say risk it frozen you and don’t help you to move forward. I think you visualize the negative part of the situation more than the positive part.
When you say challenge, you know that you have some stuff maybe to lost or maybe to take care more ibut still have so many reason to work for it.
Being alive is a risk also but survived is a challenge. LOL
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an Architect. I did my college in venezuela. The challenge was that when I came to US everything was different also the career.
I became interior designer because I love the details. Architecture was a good base but it takes care about form and function.
I wanted to explore more to the details. Make a space with the perfect harmory needed.
during this path I learned to be patience because this is a career that doesn’t depend only from you. You depend from so many people and different disciplines. You have to manage this like a capitán.
One thing that I learn was to be clear, transparent and honest with my clients. By this way everybody is on the same page and everything flow smooth.
This should be a very cool experience to the client from the drawing to the completed project. Sometimes you have some situation but that’s why you are creative to solven it and move foward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow!!!! This is a hard question! Miami is a paradise! I always say that I’m so lucky to live here.
I know that some people say that we live in the vacations but I think this is the magic of Miami.
Miami is a versátil place, you can from a fancy restaurant / hotel to the beach and admire an amazing sunset.
As a multicultural city in a week I can show him the beauty of this city for sure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can say that my parents deserves to be mentioned because they support me from the beginning.
I came from a small town in Venezuela! Be an architect/interior design wasn’t a priority there. People there just study careers like lawyer, ingieniring or accounting.
When I said architecture they said: “yes, do it, follow your dreams but please be the best”
I know it was so much effort because I had to go to another city, live far away from them in a very young age and also my mother was with a cancer battle in that moment.
I remember that it was the best motivation to finish my career faster. I did it in 4 years instead 5 years.
There is the best example about what I was talking before. I didn’t see this situation like a “risk” I saw it like a “challenge” so gave everything that I can to see my mother there in my graduation.
She is a survivor now, very healthy. She and my father are the best team Evers also now from the distance still support me in so many ways.
