We had the good fortune of connecting with Edward Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Edward, how do you think about risk?
Milestones of Success are typically found On The Other Side of Caution. For nearly a Quarter Century, I’ve been working with business owners all across the country, helping them to achieve a Financially Free Life by guiding them through the Creation and Protection of what I refer to as Real Wealth. One of the most defining characteristics of those entrepreneurs who have realized their goals in this area is the quality that they are committed to Taking Action despite Associated Risks.

You see, “Risk” is simply the possibility of not achieving a desired outcome. But the funny thing about the calculus here is that Taking Action often results in Reducing the Risk of Not Achieving a Desired Outcome, as compared to Doing Nothing At All, which just about Certainly Ensures that the Desired Outcome Will Not Be Achieved. When you compound this truth with an understanding of Asymmetric Risk, which is simply the relationship between the potential upside versus the potential downside of any investment of time, effort, or financial resources, you advance your Journey of Success.

In my life and in my business, Risk and Risk Taking has been a major contributor to what I’ve been able to achieve so far. I can point to significant moments when I took Action despite the Associated Risk and I’m cumulatively so much better off for doing so. Sure, there have definitely been moments of pain and dissatisfaction with certain outcomes. But the risk I took approaching my now wife for the first time has resulted in a happiness that I may not deserve but for which I’m forever grateful. The risk I took starting my first business and my fifth, and each and every business in between and beyond has resulted in the financially free life my family and I enjoy today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I had my first taste of entrepreneurism the summer after second grade in school. While that is a story for another day, I can honestly say that I was just built differently than most. I love the concept of creating something that offers value to others and I’ve spent my adult life doing just that.

I started my first financial planning practice in the Fall of 1998. I built and scaled that up to and through seven figures while launching complementary businesses such as Tax Preparation and Bookkeeping companies. Now I have 8 companies in a variety of industries all aimed at making a material difference in the lives and businesses of others.

My most recent enterprise is Uplevel Entrepreneur, LLC. This is an Ecosystem that I’ve created for like-minded business owners seeking a financially free life. Through Uplevel Entrepreneur, I guide family-focused, freedom-loving entrepreneurs in the creation and protection of what I call Real Wealth. I’ve essentially built out an environment to offer the same guidance and accountability that I’ve been offering to my clients in my various other businesses one-to-one for decades, now in a one-to-many, coaching and consulting style environment. I’m essentially leveraging technology to have an even greater impact.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami has so many amazing things to see and do. And each week it seems like more are being added to the list. Some of my favorite spots would include: Wynwood Walls; The Miami Design District; The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science; Superblue Miami; Epic Talks Miami; Jaya at the Setai; The Deck at Island Gardens; and Marion Miami.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I have to extend a Shoutout to my amazing wife, Irina, and two awesome kids, Ryan and Victoria. Without their love and support, I would not be where I am today. I also need to extend significant credit to all of the in-person and vicarious mentors that have extended their wisdom, practical advice, and inspiration over the years. A few which are top of mind would be: Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Robert Kiyosaki, John C. Maxwell, Russell Brunson, Alex Hormozi, Gary Vaynerchuk, Myron Golden, Seneca, and Epictetus. There are countless others who deserve credit as well.
