We had the good fortune of connecting with Elena Moffa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elena, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
To celebrate all of your wins and losses, no matter how big or small. It’s all an evolution. We’re constantly in new territory, with different challenges, fears, and opportunities to learn. It’s important to embrace each step in the journey with humility and gratitude for how far you’ve come and how much further you will go.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got where I am today by genuinely loving what I do, consistently showing up for it with big care and staying true to myself, my values and my vision.
Let’s rewind back to over 5 years ago.. I was an elementary school teacher that spent all of my free time training clients one on one, training for marathons and taking group fitness classes any chance I could. I enjoyed what I did but always knew there was more on the horizon. One night I decided to take a boxing class and was instantly hooked. Four months following, I found myself mic’d up on a stage with zero group fitness experience, auditioning for what was said to be the coolest fitness concept in NYC. As much as I’d love to say “and the rest was history..” the truth is far from that.
Spoiler: the company was Rumble and I did not get the job. I did however, gain an experience that really sparked something inside of me and pushed me forward to put myself in positions that attracted luck. Throughout the five years that followed, I began teaching group fitness boxing classes in traditional boxing gyms which gave me the experience and confidence I needed to really excel in this industry. I began to add my own creative and rhythmic flare to all of my classes which then led to the creation of my own programs on various audio, digital and brick and mortar platforms. My classes became such a creative outlet that sparked so much joy in my life that I finally decided to take the leap and dive head first into the fitness industry full time which ultimately led to where I am today, opening the Rumble Miami franchise – nothing like a full circle moment.
While it has certainly been a windy, bumpy, yet exhilarating ride, it’s been a journey that I wouldn’t trade in for anything. I have met some of the greatest people, learned alot of valuable lessons and as corny as it may sound, witnessed the magic that is brought to life when a group of people come together to sweat, move and push past all of their limiting beliefs. I am incredibly fortunate to have found such a sense of purpose in something that I also call my job. It has shifted my perspective and made me begin to wish for everything in life to happen exactly the way it does.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh gosh, we would do it all! Take a workout class in the morning.. grab coffee at any of the Pura Vida locations.. go to the beach or on a boat during the day.. get lost in all of the art in Wynwood and the Design District or have pre dinner drinks at Soho House or 1Hotel.. have dinner at one of my favorite restaurants – Mandolin, Casa Tua, KYU, Joe’s Stone Crab, Paperfish or Macchialina – just to name a few.. then see where the night takes us and do it all over again the next day!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my husband, John. He is both my biggest supporter and #1 sense of inspiration. Not only is one of the hardest workers, but he consistently exemplifies the importance of showing up with authenticity, compassion and care in everything he does. He makes me a better version of myself by pushing me to take risks, follow my heart, accept my failures and face all of my challenges with pride and enthusiasm. I am forever grateful to have him by my side.
