We had the good fortune of connecting with Elia Wolberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elia, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Being an entrepreneur has taught me so much about myself and my capabilities. From taking risks and trying new things to outsourcing and making many mistakes along the way I have become stronger, braver and more resilient.

The most important lesson that my business has taught me is in order to branch out and create new offers you sometimes have to take messy action. Messy action is kind of like throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks without having all the bells and whistles figured out yet. Anytime I have an idea I give it a go – sometimes they stick and sometimes they go away.

Another big lesson I’ve learned is that getting help and outsourcing is the only way to grow. I have invested over 20K in business coaching programs that have taught me so much. I wish I started with coaching earlier in my career.

What should our readers know about your business?
Feed Your Sister is based upon the idea that feeding yourself delicious food is the best act of self-care and love. Through my 6+ years of cooking with and for busy New Yorkers, meal prep is the key to enjoying more flavor, eating nutritious food, and saving money and time along the way.

Cooking in the kitchen is my happy place where I feed my creativity, care for others, and share my gifts with my clients. My goal with Feed Your Sister is to encourage you to always feed those you love.

I am most proud of launching my business out of nothing. It started with one client’s request for me to cook for them and it’s grown through referrals and word of mouth. It hasn’t been easy though as I was juggling teaching preschool and my meal prep business for the past 6 years. I recently retired from teaching to make Feed Your Sister full time. I’m grateful for my clients and support of my family, friends & coached who have encouraged me to keep going even when I have had doubts.

Family is the most important thing in my life. I’ve always loved cooking and come from a family of amazing cooks. From memories of making letter-shaped pancakes on a Sunday with my dad to going to my Safta’s home for Shabbat dinner, thinking about the aromas and flavors brings me back.

My love for food over time has only grown since. When I’m in my kitchen I’m happiest, whether it’s a last minute brunch, dinner, or a potluck. I was addicted to The Food Network, watching chefs like Giada and Ina often.

Some say I’m a food pusher, very much like the stereotypical Jewish grandmother. The thing is…it’s true! I enjoy watching people eat my food and hearing their praises. It’s the best compliment and fills my cup, which is a great feeling.

I know I’m meant to help people who want to prioritize their well-being by eating better! I teach and share my expertise while impacting clients’ lives by sharing my gifts daily.

I’m the kind of coach who tells it like it is. Say goodbye to generic meal plans and microwaveable meals. When you work with me you’ll have meals using food you already have saving money, time and reducing food waste. Taking care of yourself also means taking care of the planet, one meal prep at a time!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
NYC is filled with amazing foodie destinations. I would start by having a pizza lunch at Scarr’s Pizza on the Lower East Side. It’s my current fave! The pizza is delicious, thin, crispy and the vibes of the place are spot on. Don’t skip the vegan Ceasar salad and the frozen cocktail! Next I would take a walk through soho, do some shopping and make out way to the West Village for cocktails and dinner. I always try new spots. The best part about NYC is the people watching. It really doesn’t matter where you are there’s always something to do!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my current business coach Jamie Ratermann who has helped me tremendously with marketing, storytelling and my new website. I would also like to recognize my amazing organized virtual assistant Lauren Fogle. Lauren has been with me for a year now and without her I would not have been able to do all that I have this past year!
