We had the good fortune of connecting with Elif Tanverdi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elif, what’s your definition for success?
If you are content, peaceful, safe, if you create meaning and value with your work, if you love what you do and get paid for it an amount that is more than enough for your needs and comfort, if you have people around you who love, support and uplift you, if you are healthy you are successful. for me success is not a measurable thing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make and mix music. I think maybe the way I communicate my journey might be setting me apart from others. I’m not necessarily mega talented. Of course if you have zero talent it won’t work. but if you have enough talent then you still can have a strong project! I am someone with average talent. But to be able to be successful in the music business you need enough talent and then more of other things that will set you apart. An understanding of an overall artist/brand for example. I believe I do have a special and strong bond with my fans online and offline.

To get where I am professionally I needed to make a lot of investments: as in investing my time and money for my passion. It was not easy but also wasn’t difficult. It all comes down to what you can give in return. It has to make sense. For me I gave up a normal sleep schedule and a normal social life for example. If it’s something you can not give up then there’s no point. I think the only way to overcome challenges is having passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
in istanbul I take my guests to where I live, Cihangir: is the cool artsy area. An old city tour is a must in the old peninsula and crossing the bridge over Golden Horn from Eminonu to Karakoy to also explore around Galata. Another must is of course crossing continents and the best way to do this is with boats that are called motor or vapur. This way of transport is a great way to see the city from the water. In the asian side a nice area to visit is the Kadikoy/Moda hub. To truly experience being on 2 continents is to have a Bosphorus day. My favorite towns alongside the straight are Arnavutkoy, Bebek on European Side and Celgelkoy on Asian Side.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is so many people who inspired me without knowing, who supported me in so many different ways, who literally gave me mentorship, who believed in me, who was just there with me to enjoy the success with me, who encouraged me and more… I really don’t know where and how to start and if I start I’m afraid I might forget things along the way
