Meet Elizabeth Cuervo | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Cuervo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business really began with a simple desire for creative expression. I started Buttercream Blooms as a fun way to channel my creativity. I’ve always loved baking and decorating, and making cakes just felt natural and joyful to me. What surprised me was how quickly people responded to it. Orders started rolling in little by little, and before I knew it, I was getting more requests than I had space or time for. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just a hobby anymore — it had real potential. So I made the decision to go all in. It was a leap of faith, but it came from a place of passion, and that’s what continues to drive me every day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that I put so much care and love into every single cake I make. Every swirl of frosting is done with intention and behind all the pretty cakes, there’s been a lot of learning and a whole lot of trial and error. I didn’t start out knowing everything about baking or running a business. I’ve had to figure everything out on my own — from learning how to price my work to handling customers and constantly improving my skills. It hasn’t been easy, but that’s part of what makes this journey so meaningful. There have been fears and doubts, but also so many lessons. I’m constantly learning. Whether it’s from mistakes, researching new techniques, or simply trying things I’ve never done before. I’ve learned that consistency is everything. If you show up, put in the work, and stay committed, you will see results. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that it’s built from the ground up with grit, creativity, and a whole lot of heart. Nothing worth having comes easy, but if you stay the course, it’s always worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s such a fun question! Honestly, I’m such a homebody, which is kind of funny considering we live in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. I’m usually home, especially on weekends, because that’s when I’m busiest with cake orders. But if I had a whole week set aside and my best friend was in town, I’d definitely show them a good time.
We’d start with dinner and drinks at Contessa. The vibe there is immaculate, and the food is always amazing. We’d spend at least one full day at the beach, preferably with a day pass at The One Hotel. It’s so aesthetically pleasing and it smells incredible (you know what I mean if you’ve been!) I’d also take them shopping in the Design District. it’s the perfect mix of high-end and artsy. Maybe we would hop on the Brightline for a day trip to West Palm. It’s such a fun little escape without having to go far. And of course, we’d squeeze in a cute brunch or two, some cafecito breaks, and probably a stop at one of my favorite bakeries — because you know I love a good dessert!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to recognize my incredibly supportive and patient husband. He’s truly my biggest fan. From day one, he’s believed in me and this business. He’s constantly showing up for me in ways big and small. Whether it’s making last-minute supply runs when I run out of powdered sugar at 9pm or helping out with deliveries -he plays such a huge role in making all of this possible. I’m so grateful for his encouragement and his willingness to be such a hands-on partner through it all. Most importantly how he handles our one-year-old. She adds a whole extra layer of chaos (and cuteness) to the process but he’s always there to tag team when I need to focus on orders. I really couldn’t do this without him — he’s the MVP behind the scenes while I get to play cake boss.
