We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Ghia Owner, Elizabeth Ghia Interiors and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth Ghia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my career in luxury kitchen design.  I did not realize it at the time, but kitchen design requires learning very technical aspects such as plumbing, electrical and contracting.  The customer was never aware of all technical details, but I was often called upon resolving issues before the customer even knew about them.  Over time, certain clients asked me to design other areas of their homes and that’s how Elizabeth Ghia Interiors was born.  I quickly realized I also had knowledge and skills that went beyond beautiful design, and which allowed me to fill a perceived gap in the marketplace by providing a complete white glove service to my clients.  We now manage whole projects and allow our clients to focus on fulfilling their dreams of beautiful interiors without the headaches.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love what I do, and my reputation is everything to me.  We operate on a transparent basis with our clients. We are team players and whenever there is a problem on the job we like to strategize with the team (architect, contractor, plumber, electrician) so that we have a solution before we even advise the client of the issue. This way we can quickly move on and not worry the client unnecessarily. I had a great tradesman who once told me something I’ll never forget – “It’s not a problem, just a solution waiting to be found”. I love this philosophy. There are always going to be issues that come up within a project, but it’s how we handle them that sets us apart.

Our business has steadily grown, and our unique expertise has allowed us to take on progressively larger jobs, which now includes select commercial projects.  We do not want to lose the personal attention to detail, and we generally run 4-6 projects at any one time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m lucky to have a best friend and a dear cousin living here in Miami, and then other besties and good friends who visit frequently. We are also fortunate to have a boat, so that is really my favorite place to be with friends and family on weekends, not checking my phone and feeling very removed from the busy week. We try to cook yummy meals and listen to great music, and for me it doesn’t get much better than that.   Friends love seeing the ocean side of Miami.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people deserve credit in my journey to where I am now. Firstly, my parents, who’ve always believed in me in every way, but especially when it comes to my creative side. Secondly, my husband Filippo who supported me while I jumped in headfirst into previous design positions which weren’t necessarily very well paid, certainly had their ups and downs, but were excellent in terms of the experience aspect. I was fortunate to have colleagues within these firms who spent time training me and coaching me towards where I wanted to go. I also have the most amazing mentor who kindly took me under her wing when I received my first project and who has been guiding me on the business side ever since. She is 92 now and one of the most talented interior designers I’ve ever met, she also has some great stories up her sleeve.  Lastly, I’m hugely grateful to my clients for believing in me, for allowing me to do my thing and make their homes a beautiful reflection of them!
