We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Marinovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As far back as I can remember, I was working on something creative or artistic. Whether it was cooking mud pie for my mom, or going above and beyond on my school poster boards, I always enjoyed the artistic process. After having a parent visitor come to my 3rd grade class to teach an art lesson, I declared I wanted to be an art teacher when I grew up.
As time went by and artistic school projects turned into 10 page papers, I forgot how much I truly loved art. I chose a major in college that overlooked anything artistic and went on to graduate with no drive to pursue a career in the field I studied for 4 years.
As I naturally seeked jobs with an artistic or creative element, I realized that I was now heading in the right path. Happiness in work is not something all of us get to experience in life, and I feel lucky enough to say I have found it through teaching, and pursuing a small business anchored by my own artistic and creative process.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I predominately make polymer clay jewelry. Polymer clay is a man-made clay that is soft and pliable until baked, at which point it becomes permanently hard, but still flexible.
I specialize in neutral shades of clay and a cohesive feel throughout my work. I believe the quality of my work is a reflection of my slow-made process. I never rush a new collection or restock, because this work takes time and careful detail. The medium itself has been a challenging one to master. I am still learning new things about polymer clay all the time.
I believe that my gratitude and authenticity have been most important to my success. It brings me pure joy seeing you wear your Elizaberry earrings that I have taken so much time to create!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my Mom and Dad for always supporting my educational and career choices.
