We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Bench-Lahrssen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, what do you attribute your success to?
Passion and motivation!
Even when things aren’t going the way we want, passion and love for what you do guarantee success!
I wake up everyday excited for the day ahead of me!
Teaching Pilates, studying and continuously learning from clients, other teachers and mentors, is what keeps me going… this is visibly appreciated by our community and that has developed trust!
Our community knows that they are in great hands, that we really know what we’re doing, so we have never needed advertising
because they spread the word!
At Pilathon we focus on service! We are authentic and people feel it… they come to us knowing they will get excellent quality, honest and kindness
I confess to being obsessed, “healthily obsessed” with Joseph Pilates’ philosophy, which embraces mindful movement, healthy diet and lifestyle.
I always get satisfaction and a tremendous high out of sharing my knowledge with other highly appreciative persons (teachers, students, visitors…. or even Shoutout Miami Magazine readers)
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Personalized attention and the family atmosphere.
We decided from the beginning to limit the number of students in group classes to six. This is simply because all of us sometimes need individual attention and this is not possible if the teacher has to take care of too many people. Don’t get me wrong! group classes can and should be a lot of fun! Sharing this wonderful activity promotes the family atmosphere which is so vital for us at Pilathon!
We have witnessed many wonderful friendships being established “on Pilathon’s Reformers”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friends know I’m all about the beach, movement and good food!
So when they’re in town, after a Pilates session at Pilathon, we’ll get plenty of vitamin sea!
The rest of essential vitamins and minerals we’ll get at:
Havana Cafe in Wynwood for caffeine!
Favorite Japanese in town Wabi-sabi for a casual meal or Hiyakawa for a more elegant soirè.
A stroll to the mediterranean at Mandolin bistro. Favorite italian is Riviera Focacceria at Midtown or Portosole in Coral Gables.
I love to show them the architecture and lighting of the Design District and of course Plant The Future is always a MUST!
If my favorite yoga teacher @yogishelly has an event at 100 hidden palm trees, then that’s where we would be!
Modern OM bungalow and its surroundings at Upper Buena Vista is always a good idea for an afternoon tea!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
OH WOW! there are so many “family members”, and all of them are vital; including my husband Guillermo Lahrssen whose management and hospitality skills have played an important role.
Thanks to what he does behind the scenes and the operational issues he takes care of, us, the teachers can share our teachings in a relaxed care free environment.
Quality always attracts quality!
The teachers that I have been fortunate enough to work with and include in our dream team have always been top shelf.
We have seen excellent clients-students become excellent trainee teachers become, sensational teachers and recently become wonderful business partners in the expansion of Pilathon…
A dream has come true thanks to Adriana Herdan and Valeria Brito.
