We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what matters most to you?
I’m on a mission to celebrate all things, life and business! We as a society, as women, don’t celebrate enough. We make a lot of decisions in a day, and don’t give ourselves anywhere near enough credit. I know for myself, as a small business owner of two businesses and a mother to an almost 5-year-old, how much celebrating and being grateful for all of the things in my life has impacted and changed it for the better.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to create or capture stories, emotions and actions with my photos. They say, a picture says a thousand words, and I always want the photos I take to speak. I want there to be a purpose to the photograph, to make the viewer feel something and connect to it. And I love to celebrate!! We don’t celebrate enough, and there’s always something, big or small, to celebrate if you only look. I even carry confetti and balloons in my camera bag! The path into this photography career and journey has not been easy. In a social media world, there is so much competition and imposter syndrome. It took me a long time to really understand my niche, what I enjoyed photographing and how to make an impact with my gift.
I allowed my business to change and evolve throughout the years as I figured out how my art could be supportive. I got mentorship and coaching to help me with business strategies, because let’s face it, I’m a creative, not the greatest sales person, and that was extremely helpful for me in the early foundation stages. I networked and joined communities of women who were in need of my kind of support and really got to build relationships and make many connections.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Easton Town Center is full of all the shopping and eating and fun. There are fun spots all around to take photos in that are creative and fun!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mentor, business coach and friend, Nellie Corriveau. She has impacted my life, helped guide me through this process of being a successful small business owner and photographer and given me so much confidence to do what I’m doing. And, a fellow photographer, Joslyn Crowl, who mentored me in the very beginning and helped put me on the path my business is on today.
