We had the good fortune of connecting with Emina Gavric and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We were always very creative and loved taking photos of each other, my husband’s mom is a professional photographer and he grew up in her studio so photography for him was as natural as breathing. After we got our son we decided to start investing into making that something we can both do full time. I worked a 9-5 in IT and decided not to quit that job until we both make double my salary in a month which actually happened quicker than we expected. The goal was to have more freedom and time with our son. Being able to take him with us to some of the destination weddings we do and show him the world is a dream come true for us.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Although we had a good story and background for this business it was all but easy. Running a company with your spouse can be challenging since we don’t always agree on what we should invest in or shoot but being different and having different stands has helped us in the long run, he likes doing stuff I hate and vice versa so we complement each other. We took risks, we invested everything into this business, Covid was especially challenging but at that period we focused on learning and education and it has all payed off. Running a private business is a great exercise in building confidence, you are the one who needs to solve the problems there is no manager you can escalate issues to. After overcoming all the obstacles you thought were going to kill your business you feel like you can solve anything life throws your way!
That is my motivation and what keeps us going beside our happy clients of course! Getting to be invited into that intimate space between two people and their families on one of the most important days of their lives is a great honour for us. Messages we get from our couples after we deliver galleries always inspire us to do even more and better. We are always busy with improving our business no matter how good we think we are doing we always find time for new workshops and education.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have a base in Tuzla, Bosnia and Hercegovina and although we spend most of the year traveling we are always happy to come back home. Our city is known for salt production and we have salt lakes that are great in the summer, people here are ‘salt of the Earth’ and very open hearted! We believe our whole country is a hidden gem of Europe since it is not a famous tourist destination but has so much to offer! Trying the traditional food like ‘ćevapi’ is a must!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents who fully supported me quitting a highly paid job in IT to pursue photography full time and who take care of my son when I need to travel without him.
