We had the good fortune of connecting with Empress Layla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Empress, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
I owe quite a bit of my contemporary mindset quite a few books, here’s 3 that have had a strong impact.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Empress Media Group LLC is a family owned and operated media company. We are most proud of our hospitality and set design capabilities. The photography sect of the company is managed by Empress Layla, I have several publishings in the avant-garde genre of photography. The videography half of the company is managed by Empress Lex, she’s a degreed film student who’s primary interest is in horror cinema. Our interests came pretty naturally, we both enjoy a spectrum of media from makeup to music so we chose to capture them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Nikki Carmela, a Los Angelas, CA based Makeup Artist who I met at RAW Artists’s Miami. I’ve exhibited at this event over the course of several years but was attending as a guest when I met Nikki. Her energy was very receptive to edgy themes and her portfolio was film worthy, After meeting she insisted we do a concept together with me as the muse. Abby Ballin, who was also there, shot some beautifully twisted images of my partner and I. It opened my mind to the value of being an independent artist.
