We had the good fortune of connecting with NATIVE MEDIA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NATIVE MEDIA, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I knew when I was a kid I wanted to pursue an artistic career. I did well in school but the important classes like math didn’t hold my attention much after I figured I had learned what I needed for life. As I got older, I worked various jobs and got a taste of what working life was like and I quickly realized I’d rather figure something else out for myself than spend most my time at a job I had no interest in. Bartending did provide me the time to learn media avenues in music and video as well as the ability to network with the different people I met every shift. Then slowly but surely it became clear I would be able to do something with media as my career as long as I continued to put in the work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I try to incorporate all the things that inspire me into my work. Growing up in South Florida definitely has led to me wanting to show it off in my projects. I like to capture the emotions and vibes in all of the different areas of South Florida. One project might call for the scenic beauty of Biscayne, another the glitz and glamor in Boca. Then another day I’ll go shoot a music video in Hollywood at a location some would consider the exact opposite of the fancy ones. From Rolls Royce’s to donks sitting on 20 inch rims, my goal is to get all of the different stories that take place locally. There’s a lot more going on down here then just the beach and nightlife in Miami but people don’t give it enough attention. I’m trying to change that with Native Media [NAME}.
Like everything built from scratch there are always challenges but I’ve learned to just work with it. Early on it was trying to have regular clients and being consistent. So I used my own projects and ideas to showcase my talents like a resume and then the people who liked it would spread the word via social media or word of mouth. It wasn’t overnight but eventually the gigs started coming in. Now people trust me to help bring their ideas to life with a bit of my vision added in. Present day challenges still do exist. One day, the weather might influence how a shot looks on camera. Another day, an extra cant make it to a video shoot. Most of the everyday issues are usually out of my hands and stressing doesn’t help at all so I just figure it out/ go with the flow. The final outcome always turns out great.
What would I want the world to know about [Native Media]? That the small time creators are dope too. When people see some of my work it blows their mind when I tell them how I was able to achieve it. Having top of the line equipment and a studio budget is a dream for sure but when you don’t have it, its work with what you got. We do that and do it well at [Native Media]. I’d put our content, especially some of the music videos, against some that are shot with a higher budget and better equipment and I know that ours would hold their own. Money can’t always buy talent. Dope comes in all forms.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Office on 183rd street
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I could shoutout some people it’d be God and my close circle of family and friends. Little bit of faith and a lot of support from those around you an get you pretty far. Life’s hard for everyone so trying to figure it out with people in your corner is a must. There’s always gonna be people who think you cant do something, so having people there to remind you otherwise can be a big help mentally on your journey. It definitely was for mine.
